Reaper's Nano tank

just check the amps. the 12V PC fan that I use is .2A
If you use multiple fans together, add their Amps and check that you do not exceed the transformer Amp rating.

Can use one of those generic little transformers, that can set the Voltage and polarity on a little sliding switch. Cheap option.
Old cellphone chargers also work. If charger is 14V its not a real problem, 12V fan can run on slightly higher voltages

@Fishcrazy

I often use to add 120mm PC fans to mates tanks in EL to help with cooling.
you can go for the convertors however this is not a method i use for one or two reasons, i find that you need to find a convertor with the right amp or you will end up A: burning out the fans and having to replace often, or when adding multifans you will actually loose fan speed from them on most convertors (just whats happened to mates in the past)

I often run ALOT more than just one fan....

have a mate with a 3m tank that has 15x 120mm fans in the sump.

the absolute CHEAPEST way to do this is get an OLD PC power supply.... i can explain how to hot wire it so it runs off the mains (you can plug it into a timer if you want)...

you can then run as many 120mm pc fans as your heart desires...

@RiaanP, sorry I'm not a DYI boffin. As far as I understand I must connect the wires to a 12V converter, ike a cellphone charger? So will I be able to connect both fans on such a converter? Or is there other options?

Yes you can connect both onto one charger, just make sure it's a 12v charger of some sort - most cell phone chargers is only between 5 and 7 volts... I used an old 2 way radio charger for mine. Just make sure you cover the little wires with maybe something like silicone where they go into the fan. I had an algae scrubber right under my fans, so the bubbles popped and sprayed some saltwater mist onto the fans. I didn't notice it happening, until they both crapped out. Found the wires was corroded through by the salt water.
Currently I have a small household fan that I'm planning to build into the stand above my sump...

looking great!

whats your daily/weekly regime on the tank

@Jamie, rather look at these, they are a bit more expensive, but its what you need. Same store I was thinking of. If it was me, I would get a meter of each of the 14,000k and 20,000k

lumi Submersible Strip Light

Not wanting to derail the thread but has anyone tried these lights yet? I am keen to try them out and was wondering if any has had luck.

OK here goes...

Mornings @ about 8am I swich on the blue lights (still have to rig the canopy switches onto timers). Then @ 9am I switch on the whites also. Then I feed them their brekkie, which is Ocean Nutrition's Formula Two Marine Pellets.

Evenings between 5 and 6pm, I feed them brine shrimp, bloodworm and lobster eggs. At 7pm the white lights go off and 8pm it's lights out for them. Winter time I change the times.

I feed a piece of nori to the foxface and cleaner wrasse ever 2nd day, as well as add some vitamins to the food. I also feed phyto to the corals. The elegance I feed like a nennie once a week.

I dose vinegar daily, Iodide every 2nd day, Calcium, Magnesium and Strontium twice a week, and dose some nopox once a week.

The system is almost a 200l combined dt and sump, so I do a 50l water change every 2nd week (used to do 25l per week) with ro and Red Sea's Coral Pro Salt.

Filtering includes the standard Boyu skimmer still, filter sock, sponge, lr for refugium and matrix. I have an ATU and chiller connected to sump.

And that's about it @dallasg...

I'm also glad to say all the algae bloom cycles is a thing of the past. Just want to get the pink coraline growing now - I thought I would have had some by now, but still nothing.

And my awesome piece of sps I added with the goni died completely, which I was pretty damned ticked off about...

hey guys, i have those led lights, seems like they are working well ,they don't really add much color to the tank though (mine are the 14,000k)

Here's some update pics of my system and some critters

A close up of my goni (it's way more pink, as soon as I zoom in the phone camera turns it to this colour)

Something got a hold of my star's one leg... not sure what, it was fine for about 2 months now, and there's nothing new in the water that can do this
