NPS Dedicated Tank - Take 2

All rigthie...

Photo update time... This is taken with my new FujiFilm HS10, and I am VERY impressed with the perfomance of it vs. price!!!

I have added a few additions to the tank and I must say it is coming along nicely now...

Here is an update FTS:

Here is my BlueBerry Gorgonian (still not opening up 100%, but getting there...)

Jip... The blues I have seen but that purple is just something... The other purple I have is a soft baby colour, but this is just insane I must admit.

Thanks Lanzo & Viper...

The tank is doing very well now - I am a very happy man... But, as I always say: "it is one thing to get it there, but another to keep it that way..."

This is espcially true with NPS, if you just slip up a bit, they are very unforgiving... ;)

Really beautiful Jaco. Well done.

Love the curly dude.:thumbup:

Thank you!!! I must actually take some updated photos of Mr. Curly. The polyps are extending much more than on my last photo.

The addition of dosing Microbelift Special Blend is also doing wonders for the tank!!! Have never seen my coral so happy - I would imagine this being due to much much lower NO3 and PO4...

@Jaco Schoeman

Please advise me on the following

My tank is 47cm high by 26cm wide and 46cm long, water level at 23, got one 24W 50/50 cl tube 47cm above the water level. Will this be enough light for a multi color seafan and dwarf gorgonia, or must I add one tube more?

oh wow, sorry not 47cm above the water level:p and the water level is wrong, maybe I had 1:peroni: too many
water level at 43 and light 4cm above water level

If I am not mistaken and you are referring to dwarf gorgonia, you would probably reffer to Iciligorgia Sp. - they are a non photosynthetic gorgonain.

But with all due respect, if you say you have a multi colour seafan it is almost like saying you have a sps coral... ;)

Can you maybe post a photo? I might be able to see from it what gorgonian it is and whether or not it is photo or non photo.

On your question about lighting, if it is NPS gorgs, then no light is needed. If however it is a photo gorg, you might have to add more light...

lemme have a photo please.

Thanks mate!!!

not here yet, when I receive it then will upload a pic. The multi color is a Acalycigorgia
and a Iciligorgia

Ooooooooooh no... :whistling::eek:

Am I right in saying it is a Blueberry Gorgonian that you have ordered?

The good news is Acalycigorgia are all NPS... :)

But sorry to be a drol here, but the Blueberry is most likely the most difficult gorgonian to keep. Why - I have absolutely no idea.:( I had one, then it died within four months. I have one now and I am struggling with it, no die off yet, but it is a damn difficult gorgonian to have and keep happy.

Form what I have researched from other forums, these gorogonians do not really last much longer than 6 - 8 months in our aquariums. I have a dedicated NPS tank and I struggle with it...:(

If you are up to the challenge then go for it, maybe you can figure out what they want and let the rest of us know, but if you wanted an easy to keep gorgonian this really is so not it.;)

If you can, rather get the LFS to bring in a Finger gorgonian or Menela or even a swiftia.

If the gorgonian you are referring to is not a blueberry, then it should be fine, but you will still have plenty of work.

Remember also that you will need to feed your gorgonians alot - many mouths to feed....;)

lol, oh man it is a beautiful fan, maybe you must make a thread about fans and keeping them, easier ones and lights for other inhabitants and so on:p

You got fire gobies in I want to go the seahorse root. gees and this tank running now already 6 or 7 or 8 months now, cant even remember.
