Nemo Nemo Nemo

Ok... thanks Les. I'll give it a try.

Best way to get them out is to shine a torch downwards (no other lights around) and take a plastic cup and let them get sucked into the cup, your problem is feeding them. Make sure you have a tank ready with just an air stone in, have rotifers ready (that have been fed with green water).....good luck Anita
PS Don't feel bad about them being eaten by the fish in the tank, really good for them, the reason they have a few thousand babies is because most of them get eaten in the wild.......

Thanks for the comments. Thanks for the advice Anita, but I don't think that they last a second after hatching. Of all of the batches(!2+), I've never even seen one fry. If I had the time, I'd make a separate clown tank...... actually... I could turn this into a clown tank!! Cool idea... I'll think about that.

Shame my Wife would cry for days if our clowns laid eggs and then all the babies were eaten

How would you save the little guys? Would you remove the eggs before hand and put them into another tank? What would you feed the babies? Sorry for all the questions but as it seems there are plenty of people out there who have spawning clowns and it might help our LFS to get their stock from hobbyists like us instead of importing them from overseas

Maybe a good chance to throw this in.
First: Selling or swap offspring to the LFS is illegal! Unless you have an aquaculture permit, which will cost you including environmental managementplan roughly 25.000 Rand!
I heard that the fishery inspectors considering to visit the LFS's.
As soon as there are fish swimming, where the LFS cannot provide a legal invoice from their supplier, the fishery inspectors can close the whole shop down.
If I had a shop, I would not have a single fish, where I could not provide an invoice.
These fishery inspectors have the power like cops. They can arrest you. And they do, who knows that better than me.:(

how cool is that!(im talking about clowns laying eggs )

That's not cool, Glen. How cool is it that, they laid their eggs onto the leather.

Hi Shaun, we bred clowns 20 years ago (showing my age!!) we supplied many of the pet shops. The main problem is space, as they grow you need more space, if their is no space they grow very slowly, and you keep feeding them and it costs quite a lot to set up and you can only sell them for maybe R20-R30. We had large porta pools set up which worked quite well, but then if you breed too many you flood the market, so there is a lot to think about. Remember in the wild only about 5% survive, the rest get eaten, that's life, cheers Anita

Mudshark, there are a few articles (on here / rest of the web) on breeding clowns. Maybe have a look at them. You would have to culture greenwater and rotifers, though.
