Mischif's Tank Build

Ahhh the look of a new tank is something special. I have to agree. Taking glass apart and removing silicone is a b..ch... Combine that with cleaning of years of buildup. Not fun. This looks like a really clean build. Well done so far. Work will always be an issue. Believe me. I think that is why so many people get out of the hobby. Well some of us keep getting back in.

Work at the moment is quite hectic so finding time to do anything else besides work is quite a struggle so progress is incredibly slow.

That said, I found time to put my black backing on and fit my overflow and return fittings (the returns have super long thread protruding which I will eventually cut off).

Just need to do the bracing now so that I can leak test.

As for taking glass off, I hope that is something I never have to do again taking it off and then removing all the old silicone is horrible.
Looks amazing now. Congrats on the new tank:m41:

So I had alot of hobbies at one stange decided to limit them, now I pretty much have two, fish being one

But I can definitely see how people go in and out, especially if they have an extremely busy work life, I've even seen one or two posts on this forum.

I pretty much never leave home without my work laptop, even if on leave I take it with me

Hopefully the fact that I built this tank is enough motivation to never get out, in fact, I've gone through a rough time with my cube of a few years where it basically crashed and even that has not detoured me, it has just been a valuable lesson.

Tomorrow is another extremely busy day so I made a point of making an hour available to finish all the wet silicone work.

So at least that is all done.

Just some cleaning up left and then the water test.

Please come and build mine next :lol:

Looks very nice I'm sure its way better then the used one.

First fish in:rofl:

Will be using my old sump as a temporary solution.

Went on the stand for the first time yesterday, making the stand level was a bit annoying (another post about that coming).

Leak test on Wednesday, just giving it an extra few days to make sure everything has set as I will be leak testing in the house...

So decided to put a bit of water in to see if its level, I used a spirit level when we put the tank on the stand and got it pretty much level (had to add wedges) but now with filling it, it looks like the water level is 2-3mm higher on the left side than on the right...

Also, most of the stand is not touching the floor (probably because of the wedges), only parts touching are the corners.

Need some guidance

Can't you add strips off wood under to give the stand somewhere to rest on? Not sure this would work but worth a try maybe?

Whats to gap size between the floor and the stand? if not too big then what about a piece of flat bar, cut to the right size and then wedged under the stand?

I had the same issue I bought those cheap bread boards and cut them up. I was afraid wood will hod water in and degrade over time. Or perspex strips.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, I am going to need to measure the gap again as I don't remember what it is but it's not a massive gap though one side does need to be higher than the rest else the stand seems to rock (this was before I put the tank on and anything underneath)

use small square blocks of ABS sheet.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I have started, using leftover acrylic and abs.

Did notice one small issue today, somehow water got under the rear brace, at least no other brace.
After getting the tank level, I will need to redo that brace.

Long overdue update, pretty much did all the plumbing yesterday, just two pipes I need to cut shorter.

Also filled the tank now, so far looks good, no leaks at the seams and my foam has not collapsed.

However I do have a leak by the returns, they have rubber seals, I suspect I did not make them tight enough, I've just put a towel to catch the drops as it's very slow.

When I am done with the leak test I will probably silicone the rubber seal, or do away with the seal and just use silicone

nice going.

Did you redo the rear brace, or re-enforced it more?
