Nice one...just hope they're not as prone to wasting away as convicts sometimes are.

Very cool videos Marco.

You should get the underwater corrective lens for your GoPro.
It fixes the distortion underwater and things are much clearer.

Flat lens Housings

I found a locally made one for R200 in cape town a couple of years ago.

Send my regards. Borrow his camera and take some pics and upload it. Btw, tell Sagar that Gemnatus comes in pairs...lol

so we back........
last few days were really busy there,
we travelled by catamaran to flat island and gabriel island...sublime....
last few days in mauritius made me change my mind abit about my original conclusion this year.
there are still some amazing spots to dive and wonderfull sites to see
although the underwater life is taking a beating, travell abit and you can see some real wonders.
i even got to see and spend about 5 mintues following a titan trigger around the reef at flat island...amazing to see such a majestic trigger command such dominance on the reef while being so gentle aswell as explosive at times.....
we also tried out the new seakart experiance , only 9 of them in the world and they claim all 9 are in mauritius....weather its true or not, if you like speed and the sea....its a wonderfull exprience....and no experience needed to dive the thing....throttle and steer and you away with 110 hp of jet engine beneith your but.....jet is mounted at the centre of the kart so virtually impossible to roll.
all in all we had one of our best trips over the last 10 years there....
still a gret place but unfortunatly, bad economy is driving locals to really take chances with tourists....i was shocked when one street vendor quoted mika Rs300 (equivalent of R100) for a soft serve ice-cream...............the few honest vendors sell them at RS25 (equivalent of R8)
and when they see you comming, they rip off there price list from the window , so the unsuspecting tourist just pays thinking thats the norm......needles to say i had a few strong words with alot of them and politly asked them to open there eyes and realise the hole they in....they digging themselves. its not just with ice-creams...almost everything thats not in a commercial centre and they will take a huge chance with you.
it was always like this before...but not at the ridiculous rate and escallation of prices they trying now.
anyway, my fish arrived healthy and happy and are all eating and enjoying waterboys reef....which really needs a clean and water change after 3 weeks away
busy uploading 40 or so more pics.....and then, thats all folks.....until 2014;)

Lovely what a journey...thanks for sharing

its not deficult to bring back...but believe me...there are NO gem tangs around....a cyclone came earlier in the year and chased all the juvinilles of the reefs that they frequent....and they have not come back.

i dived nearly everyday, and did not see one....
i saw a few zebra tangs and thats it
and talking to sagar, menneka and yam....they have the same story to tell

how does one bring back or do you need to take out a licence like the petshops

Boet, you need to come with me on the Kenia trip.... (we will stay away from shopping malls though).... Those waters are amazing...

you need a permit from the ministry of fisheries of the republic of mauritius
signed by the vetenary officer.
these can be obtained by certain fish dealers in mauritius and can cost between RS500 to RS1000
between R200 to R400

Or we need to do Zanzibar :1:

why not....lol

i had been looking at zanzibar....but at the time it was not value for money and
i had spoken to a few friends that had just been there and they agreed it was nice but mauritius was still better as a family destination.
and you know me dude....family is numero uno....always;)
