I know some guys are using Mg sulphate, was hoping to get Mg chloride.

I went to Protea Chemicals today and did some chemical shopping.
25kg each of CaCl, MgCl and sodium carbonate
My pH is 8.0 and I was planning to bake my sodium bicarbonate to make sodium carbonate and increase my pH at the same time. When I went to protea I asked about this and they said they stock sodium carbonate as well so I bought that to avoid the time and effort involved with baking it.
Was this a smart lazy move or a stupid one? Should I have stuck with the sodium bicarbonate in the first place?

Hmm, might have been a smart move... I know that sometimes when using pure sodium carbonate, you can get a precipitate all over your glass, but thats not always the case.
I mix my sodium carbonate & bicarb in 25-75% ratio & found it to work just as well!
Just keep a close eye on your tank after you start dosing it!

Thanks Visser. I'll start with the mg and then recheck everything, then slowly add the sodium carb. Will post about it when I'm done.
