JP's Reef

Update:
Water is nice and clear, however some of the corals aren't opening well yet.

So I finally set my tank up Yesterday:m28:, I'll takes some pictures after work since the water wasn't clear yesterday. I have two problems with the setup at the moment, it has a skinny overflow and it is making lots of noise at the overflow itself, not while the water is going down the overflow piping. How can I reduce the amount of noise? Another problem I have is the amount of bubbles where the overflow feeds into the sump. If anyone has any suggestions it will be much appreciated. See the pictures for more detail. I was thinking that I should definitely add a ball valve to the return piping, but not sure what else.
Reduce the length of the vertical piece under the tank. Have the first 90 degree bend up higher. Or use 2 * 45 degree bends instead of a 90.

Bubbles from overflow into the sump. Build a baffle. Use 110mm PVC (toilet pipe), cut the bottom end at an angle or with shallow slots so that it can stand on itself without blocking the bottom end. Top end use a 110mm female end cap with hole cut in it for the downpipe. Downpipe goes into the water about 50 to 100mm. Also drill couple of small holes into the female end cap for air to escape. Same as on the lid of a skimmer. All bubbles would then be trapped inside the toilet pipe.

Hi guys. I'm trying to do a bit of problem solving to find out why my tank is not doing great. My corals don't extend as much as I've seen before and I just can't seem to find out why. Here are my parameters that I'm able to test at the moment:
  • Kh = 9.3 Stable (Dosing Seachem 2 part)
  • Ca = 430 ppm Stable (Dosing Seachem 2 part)
  • NO3 = Not detectable
  • PO4 = Not detectable
I'm not sure about PH and magnesium, but will test magnesium at the LFS to ensure that it is in line. I doubt my PH is the problem. The reason my nutrients are so low is because of the refugium I'm running and the GFO I'm using. I thought that it might be my lighting, but I'm not sure. I'd love some feedback on my lighting schedule, please find the picture below. My tank is a 600 cube if that helps and the maximum intensity reached is 50%. My refractometer has been a bit off since I got it, so will double check my salinity as well. The only other thing I can think of is the RO water I'm buying at the LFS isn't up to standard.

Think it's time for a bit of an update since the start of the tank. Everything is going really well at the moment. All my coral and fish are happy. Rescaped and got a few necessary equipment along the way (i.e. better wavemaker, dosing pump, etc.). All I feel I need now is a nice colourful euphyllia in the middle of the big flat rock.
