Hotdog's Maxed Out Reef 650

Luckily tank survived the 10 days without me, but suspect the naso tang was stress eating due to missing me, it is a little obese. Snake eel also seemed happy to see me.

Miss seeing this tank the last week or so. That puffer has really grown very quickly :m15:

Him and the naso are competing to be the fastest growing fish in the tank, think puffer is about 4 times its weight it was in November last year when I got it. Seems quite gentle though, hangs out in same corner as goldies without trying to take a bite.

Algae scrubber ticking along, hoped there would be more growth by now, but this is 2 weeks of growth:

Found a one and a half legged sand sifting starfish that seems to be doing fine, wonder who chewed off his other legs:

Woke up this morning at 3h00. Power is off. Check outside and neighbours have power. Go into fish room. Weird sound coming from tank, like pump sucking air. Get close to tank. Floor wet. Palms sweaty. Knees weak. Arms heavy. There’s water on the floor, can’t forget it. Look behind tank and water spraying everywhere from a leak in the one UV sterilizer. Return pump still running due to UPS. Turn off plug. Switch on power. Start with emergency repairs and top ups. 3 hours later and essentials are running and everything looks ok. Luckily caught it in time before atu could drop salinity significantly. Just thankful it was this week and not last week while we were away.

Luckily you woke up or it could have been really bad. Just a quick question. Do you qt all your fish, if so what method of qt do you use, how long do you qt and what size qt tank do you use. Do you have anylon photos of your qt system if you even qt??

Yes, 10 days daily tank transfer in plastic containers, meds depends on type of fish and condition of fish, could be Methylene blue, Kanaplex, Metroplex, Paraguard or Sterazin/Myxazin in extreme cases. Will quickly find a pic on my phone.

At least this gives me an excuse to sort out the electrics that was chaotic behind tank. And want to plumb a bypass for the UV sterilizers so I can take them offline while still running the return pump. Not great waking up to this at 3h00.

Wow - lucky you caught it when you did - with that massive investment in tank and livestock, possible future investment in some failsafe/notification type devices, even if only leak detector on floor?

Yes, have a Sensaphone in cupboard, but don't have a landline, definitely need to make a plan with something.

Whao, what a close call, luckily u woke up, must have been one of ur senses telling u to get up

UV Leaking and where?
Plastic worn through I assume?

Yip, seem to have degraded over time, it was only a crack that caused issues, it broke completely when I took it out today. Apparently the white ones are more UV resistant, will replace with them.

At least electrics is all neat and out of the way of the toddler and baby roaming the house, have absolutely nothing to do this weekend now:
