Hotdog's Maxed Out Reef 650

Sorry to hear that. Your tank was one I inspired mine to be like. Hopefully you can come back from this.

So sorry to hear Pieter, will be a massive loss to the marine hobby community. You were always selfless in sharing your knowledge and assistance.

I hope you find the strength to continue, even if not now, at a later stage.

+1 - if you do take a break don't rush into giving your equipment away - if ever you want to come back it will cost twice as much again

Guess I have to share bad news too on here. Been a horrible few days, lost most of the fish, and worst of all is I am not 100% sure what it is. Currently narrowed down to Brooklynella or a toxin in the water. Where the brook came from I have no idea as everything gets qt-ed. I am really struggling to see a way where I am going to continue in this hobby unfortunately, it has been a devastating few days, more than I can handle at this stage of my life.

So will put up the hardware for sale soon, as soon as I have figured out the way forward, maybe just a nano for now, or complete cold turkey. But if anyone might be keen on the hardware, let me know, can let all the hardware go for R30k, which is a bargain. It has not been an easy decision, but there are other things in my life that needs to take priority now, this crash was the last straw.

Oh man this is some of the saddest news I've read in a long time! This was by far one of my favourite tanks out there at the moment...really sorry for your losses Pieter. :m24:
Dont make any rash decisions just yet though with regards to selling up, I know from experience thats our first reaction when something like this happens...done it myself a couple of times over the years...but still now a days with a clearer head think back and say to myself if only I hadnt been so impulsive to shut down due to those incidents happening...its heartbreaking though for sure. :(

Thanks guys. What most probably will happen is that I’ll keep a few fish in a nano, give a few to my brother to babysit and let tank go without fish for a few months. Then make a decision if I want to continue.

Dude you can't quit because of something like this. I know it is hard, but you will never get what you have for the same price you want to sell it for.

I know, but not sure I’ll set up again if I sell. Have other priorities currently taking most of my time.

So sorry to hear about your loss hotdog83! I agree with everyone's sentiment here - don't throw in the towel too soon. Strongs bud

Ai bud, this is sad news. Listen, take a break, but try not to sell just yet. Focus on your other priorities, and when the time is right you will sort out your tank again. Heck, if need be, just keep on adding water to your tank so that it does not run dry, take a few days, take a month, or even a year. We as humans tend to make decisions based on emotions, and that is not always the best way to go. Take a step back, re-asses, re-align, and make a clear minded decision. I hope you can take a step back and see light at the end of the tunnel, even if that tunnel is extremely long (been there, done that).

Forget about the financial side. Forget about what your stuff is worth and what replacement value would be. Financial decisions based on emotions can be disastrous. Think about it this way. If you just do nothing further to your tank, there is only the expense of electricity, which you are already paying, so you should be used to it. If after you have gotten over the loss and sadness, you still think it is best to pack it up, then you can start considering it.

Strongs bud.

Really sorry to hear. Been there twice before. Terrible feeling.

Before you pack it all away- let the tank run for a few weeks with no fish, a few wrasse invariably survive. and just let the feelings of the last few days pass before you pack up.

Such a frustrating time, some fish show almost no symptoms, like regal tang of all fish, in pic I took tonight, which are disease magnets. Took some fish out into qt, like regal angel and margined cbb with half dose Myxazin, at least all remaining fish are still eating.

Hang in there Pieter.
Lots of us out there to help you back. Need to help us understand what happened so we can learn from it.
Your two Regal Angels inspired me to go the same. Currently paired two up in the sump. taken me 6 months to find a second one.
I have lots of SPS to bring you back.

Pity my one regal angel died during the disease. As well as male crosshatch. Other regal angel and female crosshatch doing well, but sad to have lost the pairs. Thanks for the offer, luckily all my corals are completely unaffected.

So, this is what I lost with the disease (anthias could have been less, not sure how many were left when this all started):
