Hotdog's Maxed Out Reef 650

It is a red spotted blenny, Istiblennius chrysospilos. Really good algae eaters and lots of personality.

They should be readily available on Sri Lanka shipments and should not be too expensive (less than R400), whether the shops order them off the lists is a different story. Maybe chat to your local shop and ask them to order you some from the next Sri Lanka shipment?

Random shots from the weekend:

Stopped carbon dosing for now, decided to try chaeto (thanks @mariusmeyer ) and see what happens to nitrates. Might not be efficient enough as I have over 50 fish, but will see. Might design big algae scrubber to run on one side outside of tank, let’s see if this works, both in reactor and in sump under grow lights:

Pacific sun have a version out of those reactors out now, http://pacific-sun.eu/shop/filtration/algae-reactor/
Apparently
In reactors S and M white tubes are completely not transparent - it’s white pvc.
In large reactors it’s milk acrylic tube which about 15% transparency

They still seem a bit too transparent for outside the sump to me looking at the pics of them.

I'm having no luck with the C-Skim 1800. It doesn't skim, then for no reason overskims like a mofo, then nothing again. It's impossible to get it setup

I got the tank second hand with the reef octo skimmer, but have dealt with other stock RSM skimmers on smaller RSM tanks, and could also never get them to work properly.

Cyano slowing disappearing since stopping carbon dosing, too scared to test Nitrate. Also, if anyone ever has to remove a bioball from an overflow, a vacuum cleaner works best (after struggling for over an hour with a kitchen knife):
