Hi guys if im dosing calcium this afternoon how long must I wait to dose alkalinity. Thanks

which product? what amount? more info easier to answer

Brightwell Reef Code A and B only need 1-2 minutes

dosing reef advantage calcium dry did the tests and put everything on the reef chemistry calculator dosing now 47g ... then want to dose reef bulder alkalinity .....

another question if I have not been dosing anything why when I tested magnesium it was 1500ppm ... seems high not to have dosed anything

can be from the salt you used, or mistake while testing :p

i would wait 5min, dose Ca, then 5min later add a small bit and see if it precipitates, never used seachem Ca and Alk, so its a guess from experience using others

im dripping in the 46g of calcium in 5LT of RO is that necessary? if I wait 1 hour between will that be ok ?

tested magnesium twice will test at LFS don't really do water changes

Thanks for help @dallasg

no need to panic about the Mg, it will come down, and at 1500 will keep bryopsis at bay :)

why 5L? you only need to mix it in 250-500ml RO?

ok cool wont worry .... just wanted it to take longer to drip in didn't want to much going in at once I guess ... could I just pour it in my return pump section or must it be dripped

you can bolus dose, pour it in, but no more than a 20ppm increase per day.
what is you daily consumption?

for drip dosing you can use a drip kit from a ER room

ok cool will pour in ...... needed to raise by 95g so dosing over 2 days ..... I have had a marine magic triple dosing pump for 9 months and had not set it up so setting it up now..... want to dose calcium, alkaline and magnesium ... so not sure what daily consumption is yet just want to get it to the right parameters

parameters are
calcium 380
KH 5
magnesium 1500

Ca dont raise more than 20ppm a day, alk no more than 1kdH per day
dose them 5-10min apart

the pump will help keep stability by dosing every hour or 2

Ok thanks bud for all your help

anytime!

just ask

Sorry for the hijack, if need be will open a new thread

but I wanted to know how I would calculate dosing of reef buffer.
I would like to control my kh levels in my tank, and wanted to use my Doser to assist.

Anyone with some advice on how to calculate mixing buffer and how much to dose.
Thanks in advance to anyone who assists

first calc your daily alk consumption, then mix a stock solution as per the instructions, then dose the amount for the alk consumption based on your tank volume, spread the dosing over the day

its on the label
Use the following formula to determine how much to add to your top-off water: m=0.08va (m=grams to add to top off water, v=volume of tank in liters, a=amount to raise alkalinity in meq/L). For example, if you want to raise your alkalinity by 1 meq/L in a 200 liter tank, then you would add 0.08x200x1=16 g into the top-off water. [For reference: 1 gallon*=3.8 liters, 6 g=1 teaspoon*].
