Anemone propagation

thanks sanders!! i agree id say the anemone must be in good health for at least 4 months before propogating

Thanks Calvin - yes - I agree - don't know if I will ever have the guts to do this to my magnifica anemone.... perhaps one of the other, but not my magnifica.... AND IT EVEN ATE MY SURGEON! (after the surgeon became sick that is).....

cool man take the plunge

Looking great Calvin, but a bit of advice to newbies to propagating, if you are unsure whether your anemone state of health is up to it, ask people like Calvin and Brenda, to name only two on this forum, for advice. I'm sure they 'll give proper guidance.

Cheers

I also recommend seeing it done a few times before trying it. I do believe Calfo has a video out on this. If anyone is interested I can see if I can find a link, or get my hands on it and see what I can do about getting it to you.

Or you can all rent a private jet and come to Chicago! :1:

Going to have to look at doing this one day, looks very interesting and satisfying when you have this kind of success.

im sure that wont be a problem dude!
im starting rose and green bubbletips soon!

There are some important things to know when propagating an anemone.

Some (but not all) include:

It must be a healthy anemone. A recently collected and/or shipped species will likely die very quickly after being propagated. It must be kept in a clean, stable environment. Clean, sharp objects must be used to make the cut. You want a surgical type cut, not a jagged cut. You will want to avoid a compression type cut.

When removing the anemone from the tank for propagation, you want to be careful to avoid injuring the anemone. If the anemone is injured during this move, return the anemone to the tank and wait for it to heal before propagating.

If you are not experienced with keeping anemones, I don't recommend this. It will be hard for you to know when the anemones health is declining.

I have several links regarding anemone care and propagation, I would be happy to sort through and provide them to anyone. I could also start a new thread with them and people can add to the list.

Let me know what is best.
