14 Liter Pico

Ag wat, what's one more hijack between friends...lol.

Waynan has given me an idea with this Mantis shrimp of his.

So a quick question: If I'm not mistaken, Mantis Shrimps like to dig don't they? So what substrate should I use for one of them and how deep?

Galibore they like to make caves under rocks, so a 3cm fine to medium substrate would work.
I like the idea of a Mantis Tank too, they are fascinating creatures.

oi! oi! stop stealing my ideas

3-5 cm of a medium of fine substrate is perfect, but remember to add some LR for the shrimp to build his home under, as well as some smaller pieces so that he can block the entrance when sleeping and molting. If however you are fortunate enough to get a spearer then you will need a DSB 10cm as they make tunnels in the sand.

Nice info, thanks Wayne.

Sorry for stealing your ideas, but I'm not known for my originality....lol.

lol, hey that's why these forums are so cool, we get to steal other peoples idea's

Seriously it's great when you see something to a problem that's been bugging you for ages and just didn't know how to fix it.

An update: Added two new inmates. Got them from Len. This is just a temp home for them.

Cool thanks. First have to get these two guys' home ready.

That second pic is awesome Galibore. Nice work ;)

Well, my suspition is yes. I have been testing about every third day since startup, and nitrites and nitrates both stayed 0.

I will continue to monitor for another two weeks or so.

Galibore

You have seen those two little powerheads I have in my nano, They rated at about 190l/h, but you can calm them down by simply cuttiung the end of the impellors of. Got them for R55 from Pet Masters. Also removed all the nozzles stuf to give it a nice big outlet. I am pointing them to the front glass and have put them on timers so sometime they run on their own, sometime togeter and sometime not at all.

Seam to be doing a good job and not to in your face.

Found one of these in Richards Bay just got the OK from the warden so I'm off to get one. What else do you recon I need other than what's in the box? I got some aragonite and a few pieces of cool rock from my algae tank?

Len,

Yeah I saw. And was pondering it. But I have lost a clown and two shrimps to an in-tank powerhead already.

Sims,

That's all I had to use: Tank, filter, light, aragonite and LR. Then you're good to go.
