And - what about die-off from living organisms, Wee-Man? Don;t you think that this would cause phosphates and nitrates/ammonia/nitrites to be present in the salt?

I would imagine that this has been dealt with somehow - perhaps they washed it:lol:

Seriously, there must be a filtration system to prevent this, David told us they were developing the salt a couple of years ago, it seems to be rated highly by those that use it.

That's how Cerebos is produced. Check out those salt pans outside Port Elizabeth!! :yeahdude:

Seriously, it would be a hoot to add a Cerebos test to the results, just as a fun comparison. As far as I'm aware, it's produced by "solar evaporation of sea salt" ;-) plus presumably some filtration/cleansing.

I have been making up a batch of water change with Seachem reef salt. I have to use 25% more salt than I use with Tropic Marin.

Any ideas why ?

hmm, guess what salt i'm not buying next time!

warr maybe its just a bad batch, can one get such a thing as a bad batch of salt?

I am sure you do, I would like to know from other Seachem user what sort of measurement they require for their Water changes.

It maybe that the composition of this salt has more of the trace elements (that don't effect salinity) and less salt than the Tropic Marin brand

is it mixing to what is printed on the bucket?

pretty much, but I have always used TM and had my measuring regime has been 3 cups, with Seachem, I had to use 4½ cups, so quite an increase. Also Seachem is more expensive, so all in all the most expensive salt, I've come across. If I don't see noticeable improvements from my corals then I don't feel it's worth the change.

agree...if you see no change. Have you ever tried Real Ocean? I know it's cheap but would be nice to know from a user who has used a few bransd...i.e. you :)

Yeah Andrew does use it on his SPS tanks, and his SPS colours are awsome!

Bump for new members, please vote on the poll at the top of the thread, thank you.
