ushaka FISH pics- through my lens

nice answer there Ash!

i wonder what it will take for me to be part of the collecting team:)

Thank you Ash.

@ Mudshark, I do not know, I saw stuff that looked like krill, I saw them feeding pieces of squid in the tank next to this, maybe Ash would know.

To all the other nice comments---- thanks guys

Thanks for responding to my PM and post Ash. Very much appreciated. The "controversy" and " told" are stories often told to divers, some international, visiting the shoal by the Aliwal diving community. I suppose it is a perception they may have.

But it does lead one to ask questions.

I'm more on the research side, only do occasional coral collections when we initiate new work on species we are not already growing on exhibit or in the research aquarium.

The collections guys do have a jol though! Especially when collecting the game fish!

Sean - the krill you saw was probably mysid. They use plenty of it in quarantine and culture lab. The lionfish get fed live glassies (they generally don't eat dead or flaked foods) all the bigger fish get store bought seafood, fish health is obviously top concern. They also get their greens! lettuce, garlic, peas, ect. A lot of work goes into the upkeep and animal husbandry here.

I do believe you Ash, but if you see the pic of the shoal of Lionfish, all the "white thingies" are food that was put in the tank while I was taking pics- dunno what it was, but they ate it

Beautiful pics. The clown trigger may be mine. I donated more than one to the aquarium when it was still based at no.1 west Street.

hobbyists blame aquariums for any missing tropicals

Hmmm, and if we turn the tables a bit... I wonder how Indonesian conservationists feel about us buying up all their Acropora sp., fish and live rock?

Thanks for the pics @seank!
