The Skimz skimmer clan

No I am thinking that the impeller is getting damaged by the damaged stator abraising it.

NJ there were small fragments of the impellor and plastic that came off the impellor, owing the design of this impellor and because of the flange this debris cannot be flushed out and will stick in this area untill abraded, to nothing, i thought nothing of it at the time but there was a grit within this "stator" area and this could have been the disintergrated magnet?

Les what sometimes happens is that the bits of magnet stick in the well of the stator. When a new impellor is installed the magnet makes the metal fragment "stand up" jaming and damaging the new impeller and stator.

so what are you saying?

i dident clean the shaft prior to replacement?

Yes/No Les. Fine fragments of the magnet stick to the side and bottom of the stator. Very difficult to remove because they are magnetic and clinging to the nearby metal attraction. When a new magnet is installed these fragments stand up due to the stronger magnetic field of the new magnet and get cause the damage.

In the early 2000's and later in the mid 2000's some reputable brands had a similar issue with impellors. All are resolved today

it is possible, i agree.. and i was thorough but magnetic fragments are stubborn.. but i still there is no denying that there is a problem with the impellor itself.. the more i scour the web the more cans of worms i am finding... im hoping we will have a simular response to the issue at hand.... so far its looking bleak though..

@Leslie-I agree to opt for a total pump replacement, also, I think a cooling problem could be present, so far I have not heard anyone complain about the heat fatigue with the armature on the internal Skimz using the same pump.

Shot, i have e-mailed janet but as of yet nothing.. perhaps by tues/wed..

Im just annoyed that there is no longer local support for the first generation buyers as im not sure what the shipping saga will turn out to be as in time to deliver.. and if there is a mistake (as i see janet has already confused my claim with another model and another claim lodged from SA) in part supplied..

Its just a little frustrating that there are parts available within SA and i dont have acess to them..

That vid is for the ES2800, Leslie has the ES5000.. although still informative for the thread.
I wonder why the guy is cutting the shaft stabilizer when fitting the new impeller.

Is the first gen meant to be stabilized and the second gen not?

so it jsut not the the one model of pump is all of them ??

If you're asking whether there is more than one model of pump for the whole skimz range.. the answer is yes.

As far as I know, there are 3 Eden versions:
ES2000, ES2800, ES5000.

There are also skimmers with Aquabee pumps, which I don't think SA has received stock of.
UP2000, UP2000/1, UP5000

no stupid questions, but yes i do.. :) i know about centering a shaft ;)

thanks for the input.. but i still see no solution in sight even after replacement if this is what its going to be replaced with....

Ask TSR for a price on a Shark 3 Sicce pump. Its a reliable pump and has a 1020 l/h air draw. Those Eden pumps are going to keep on breaking and going to cost more in the end.

i completley agree.....

Skimz have come back to to me and will be sending me a "new" impeller

lucky you,, i have had nothing from Janet since i added the pump to my claim...not even an e-mail saying its being looked into and today is 1 week since i started my correspondance with them and week 2 of having no skimmer operating on my tank...

Quick recap, this is four days of skimmate on a 300L tank. So it's pulling really nice sh&* out. I'm really happy with this skimmers performance but concern of the noice the pump makes. It is alot louder than my previous TS1 skimmer.

It will definatley be more noticable than a TS1 my house is dead silent without my skimmer running. Actually its unnaturally quiet :)

Awsome skimmate there. Juts check your impellor and make sure if it is wearing it doesn't damage the pump like mime did.
