Article South African Marine Fish

I have been reading through a book that my daughter took out at her school library for me to read, shame, very thoughtful of her. The book is called Sea Fishes of Southern Africa, with most of the photo's by Dennis King, incidentally, did you know that the Tiger Angelfish - Apolemichthys kingi, a fish found ONLY on our coast line was discovered by and is named after Dennis King, pretty cool hey. I believe the price tag on one of these fish can reach up to R35 000.00 overseas.

Anyway, just thought I would share a bit of info and photo's of some of the awesome fish that the we get on our coastline, time to start diving I think :)

Spotted hawkfish - Cirrhitichthys oxycephalus

Think I may catch a few and roast them on an open fire ;)

Wee-man you gotta come out here one day. The amount of these you see is mad.
We have a great spot just off Durban (Vetchs Pier) that is loaded with fish. Some of them ugly and shit but a lot of them are really beautiful.

Mekaeel my son is getting more interested in my tank. Just need to get him his own tank (If his mom allows it at her house)

wee man,i think its actually cheaper for you rather than for us.you got the pound,it costs us more to drive down to the beach here to catch the convicts
don't think the posting thing would really work any way:)

His mom is one tough cookie. Seeing as we are divorced she will kick up a fuss.
crap man.well im sure if your son wants one,the wife will agree.or maybe once youve completed setting it up,you might find a brick through the glass rather leave the tank out hey :svengo:

i doubt it gaz.the wind appears to be changing direction and blowing easterly at the moment.gentle though.should the wind pick up its going to mess up the water.lets see what its like in the morning and i'll tell you what the water conditions are like.

kewl, only need to pick up some hermit crabs and thought if it was nice will stay longer

Hi Gaz,

Visibility is pretty low at present on Vetch's after this westerly. If it drops tomorrow then Thursday or Friday should be OK.
