Thanks Anthony. Was a bit confused as the OR 2500 pumps I was using on my AM skimmers have a little hole for the airline tubing to exit.

Very much so. I get decent skimmate every second day or so. Real value for money!
Does it not decrease the efficiency if you decrease the overflow.? Do you have an ozonizer connected to the skimmer. I have read that this increases thwe efficiency as well.

Just got back from purchasing one of these. Very nice skimmer from what I read, and already have foam not even 10 minutes after startup.
I have water collecting in my collection cup though - from what I can see, this seems to happen. How would I know that my water levels are setup correctly with the skimmer? Is it just matter of if you have foam, you're set?

Is it new or 2nd hand, there are old and new versions of this skimmer, although basically the same really. To adjust the water level inside the skimmer you move the outer pipe (with the sponges around it) up or down, if it is all the way down and you are still getting a lot of water in the cup then you need to raise the skimmer, place it on top of eggcrate or something, then readjust the pipe again.

Got two TS1's brand new (450 Height) as the TS2's was too heigh to fit. Only operating one currently just to familiarize myself with the setup. This is my first marine setup, so taking things very slowly without any live stock on a trial by error type of way 
Please see attached image showing the water line. The pipe is currently as far down as it can go, and I'm still getting my collection cup pretty much filled with water within a matter of minutes. I've read however that it could be because the skimmer is new, or because the salinity levels aren't right yet (still busy adding salt too).
How far out, if I can call it that, would the skimmer need to be raised? Currently my water level is just above the reeftek logo so if I can get some kind of indication of where the water level should be, I can most certainly try and raise it.
EDIT: Just raised it manually a bit and seems to be much better once it's raised that the water level is a little bit under the logo. Will raise it once the salinity is right and try again

Oh ok, you're in a TS2 thread, but nevermind, same skimmer just smaller
Don't bother adjusting the skimmer then, they barely do anything in freshwater and will only operate properly at normal salinity levels. My advice for now, forget about the skimmer until your water is ready to accept livestock.
However, in the meantime, you do need to raise the skimmer, lift it up so that the logo is fully out of the water. It's been a few years since I had my TS1, trying to find a pic of where I had the water level on mine, might take a while though, it's in the archives somewhere, lol.

I was under the impression the skimmer was neccessary for the cycle. Salinity is almost there, it's definately not fresh water anymore, and when I do raise it, I see foam pretty much immediately.
Will need to raise it though, so now to go hunt for something to put under it. Thnx for the help guys, once I received my propper tanks (not the crappy 3ft I'm 'playing' in now), I will start my own thread under the noobie section and use that as a diary and a help me out thread.
Definately still very far away from any live stock - I know WAY to little to risk loosing expensive marine fish... My 10KG Fiji Live Rock will have to do for now

No, not absolutely necessary. Wait until your salinity is correct and stable otherwise you are going to be forever trying to adjust the skimmer and it's just going to frustrate you because it will function differently at different salinity levels. But in the meantime raise the skimmer. Best of luck with your tank.
