Hey all this weekend I got myself a calcium test kit its a salifert test kit and I got a verry high reading its over 500 so I am concerned what I did next was test the ph and its low at between 8 and 7.7..I dont have a alkalinity test kit at this stage and wont be able to get one in the next week so my question is what can I do to pick uP the ph is there any quick fixes I read you can add baking soda is that true and how much do I add in a 1000 litre tank

Baking soda ( sodium bicarbonate) will raise KH and only slightly raise pH
Washing soda ( sodium carbonate) will raise KH and pH.
But you need to test your alkalinity first.

Normally high Ca levels and low pH and KH levels are associated with very low DO ( Disolved Oxygen) and / or high CO2.
First try and increase the amount of water surface turbalance. Then retest the pH after a few hours.

I have just tested my tank after a too long time and the params are not right.dkH 6.4, alk 2.29 amd ph 7.2. Some advice to correct this would be appreciated.
I have a lot of flow +-3800 l from the return and another 4800 l from the sctubber plus 2 big fans blowing onto the water from about 3.5 cm.

I then read the article and now know why I got the 'Enjoy' advice.
Corrected the mg to 1350 and the rest of the parameters is sorted.

dkH 8.0
alk 2.86
Its like magic and I will remember but I'm too old to understand I think.
