Orca nitra guard bio cubes discussion

Hi @dallasg, @irie ivan

So my phosphates were at 1, over the weekend i installed a reactor with orca phospha-guard, that stuff worked so well, my phophates dropped to 0.25

However, my nitrates are still at 10, it would seem the normal bio cubes didn't work.. to me anyway.

Should i try titanium cubes ?

strange, run as recommended?

thats quite a drop, 10 is not bad, how many ml cubes are you running? tank volume?

Running cubes for 6 months and they've done diddly squat to the nitrates and phosphates in my small system. Nitrates actually gone up from 20 to 40. Phosphates gone from 0.2 to 0.6. Set up correctly, right amount of cubes right in the bubbles of my overflow exit, tons of water movement through the bag and a decent skimmer.

Vodka was far more successful and I'll be going back to that.

250ml cubes, installed via the bomb method, 120l tank volume.
it's only the nitrates really as the phosphates shot down with +-120ml of phospha-guard

i wish i had an answer, i have run them for years and never an issue, my one tank has 3 year old water and the sps are going mad....

i found vinegar more successful than vodka

i can give you about 150-200ml titanium cubes to try if you want

can collect from me on sat morning, my memory is bad so will have to pm me to remind me friday

Hmmm. So this is a VERY old thread revive. Why has it died in 2014? I have had HIGH nitrates for as long as I can remember. I got 500ml og Titanium cubes today at Jungle Aquatics. I'm not looking for 0 Nitrate as I have softies only. When I say high nitrates it's 200 plus, nothing even weekly 75 waterchanges brought it down. Maybe a little but not much. So I have 2 bags each with it's own air stone soaking in RO since 12:30. My question for now is. Is the amount of foam normal and the reason why pre soaking is necessary?
