Hi,

i have just started a new Fish Only Aquarium.
so i am just reading up and getting some info.

1 question i have for all you experts here.
Play Sand / Pool Filter Sand as Substrate.
Is it a Yes OR NO ?????

The reason i ask is that Substrate is Expensive,
and i didnt budget for this.
so i wanted to know if it was a good idea or not.

Why not do bare bottom? Can direct flow to the bottom of tank to keep waste suspended and into overflow. Fish only tanks are normally heavily stocked and over fed so this could help.

Was Actually thinking of that but the wife wants Colour in the tank

Play sand is the better alternative between play sand and pool filter sand.

Anyway, on both you need to wash it like a 100 times.

IMO wait another month and save up to buy proper substrate, in the long run it will be worth it! It just looks more natural and there are also awesome gobies that you can get, and when they make their burrow it will even look more awesome. Or ask around for anyone selling, saw a few times people selling some substrate.
