New Frag Setup

what frags have you got for sale man:)

So here is an update on my frag tank. So far I have I have a standard 3ft tank connected to a 800mm x 800mm x 300mm tank (water level at 250mm) and then connected to a 3ft sump with a large dsb, live rock and chaeto.

The 3ft tank is for softies only whilst the other is for sps. For the sps tank I'm using 2 x 150W DE 6500K MH. It's just an experiment, if they start going brown I'll change to higher kelvin globes.

For the softie tank I'm using 1 x 150W 20 000K MH and 2 x 10 000K 39W T5's.

Here is the pic of the softie tank, I'll post pics of the sps section a bit later:

Looking very good manic, your tank is much deeper than mine - just out of interest, I have a 10K (cheapie) over my frag setup and the colours are really dull (I only have a T8 White and T8 Actinic backup)

I am thinking of putting my 2 x 150W MH over the tank, with a 6500K on the left and a 20000K on the right - left for growth, right for colour - what you reckon?

Either that of plumb another frag tank under this one and really, really annoy my wife ;)

I was going to do that whole thing with the 6500K light on the one side and a 20 000K on the other side but then I read a few things and spoke to adriaan from Idol Marine and he said I should use the 6500K globes. The colour of corals is influenced by lighting intensity. The 6500K globes provide the most intensity.

All I can say is the corals under the 6500K globes are brighter than the ones under the 20 000K globes. They may look crap under the 6500K globes because everything looks yellow but when you move them over to the 20 000K globes you can see that the corals under 6500K globes have coloured up more and grown much more...

The only problem is that if you have nitrates in the frag tank, then the corals will start to brown faster under the 6500K globes but if your nitrates and phosphates are low then I would go for the 6500K globes...
