“So are you setting one up milepora?”

Maybe Rory, …….maybe.;)

“come come andrew I wanto win!! where is my nano?”

lol, I’m trying Calvin, just really swamped at the moment pal. I should only start building tanks next week.

Copper, why do you think a nano should be run with as little equipment at possible?

Milli in my very humble opinion using CaRx, skimmer, PO4 reactor and all the other goodies we use on our big tanks is like taking a chainsaw to a bonsai tree, it defeats the object of the exercise. The general tendency towards nano's is to do as much as possible with as little as possible and keeping the nano inmates happy by means of pure biological filtration and hourly  daily or weekly water changes. This is also the reason why folks like Robin and others believe nano's should not be a beginners sport.

But again like most things in reefing there's no hard and fast rules so if someone wants to do 100L system with all the bells and whistles they should go for it...just not something I'd do..

Yes uncle Dean...sorry uncle Dean..have a nice day uncle Dean...its time for Copperpedia again..

Hey Copper, I respect your views on how a Nano should be run.
To me, I don’t look at it as an exercise but rather as keeping a small tank healthy and stable in order to get the best out of it. I am not saying you have to have all the bells and whistles to do this, not at all, but I am saying if someone adds a chiller to maintain temp, or a small skimmer to help remove waste, they should not be knocked but rather praised for trying to do there best for their Nano
My definition.
If a tanks size and volume falls within the accepted size of a Nano tank then it is a Nano tank, regardless if it runs on rocket fuel or just plain seawater.

Good to hear dendrosa.

Mille I think there are 2 different things about nano tanks. One is the "nano size" (under 20G) and another is the "nano method" (using live rock and water changes). Some guys use the live rock and large water change method on big tanks, some use all the bells and whistles on small tanks. For the purposes of this competition though the only specification is total water volume.

I think milli is right, by using all the bells and whistles you will only be creating a better and safe enviroment for your tank inmates. after all arent we ment to try and make are tanks be as close as possible to the ocean? which ever method you choose to run your nano is up to you. some people will prever to do more manuel work(water changes) will others will prefer to let the skimmer do most of the work.

Agreed Milli.

I don't mean to rush the male entrants, but of the four comp. entry threads already running, all four are by chicks.

Guys i dont think equipment that you got hooked up should make a difference, at the end of the day its the results you get. There are aquarists that spend fortunes on systems and cant gat it right, there are others that spend the minimum and have awsum systems. Throwing money at a system does not guarantee success, so really at the end of the day it shouldn't have any bearing on the competition.

Agreed. My only problem is the volumes. I think I am going to link my 40 liter Nano to Peter's 35000 liter mini ocean!:) Thats what I call a sump!

That's why the competition specifies total system volume and not just tank volume :p

Errrgghh Hummm calling me a chick?:whistling:Nah I got it going for her.
