Could you not remove the comapartment between the DSB and the return chamber. Make that also DSB. The bigger the better.
Change the Merlin sand filter to empty into return chamber.
BTW, how does that work? Any good? or will DSB do the same job?

What about using sand from Langebaan Lagoon for my DSB.
The sand is very fine.

Roadmap, no problem.
When you get sand for the DSB, go as far away as possible from any humans. Do not want their pollution. Not sure if Langebaan is polluted free.
Also dig sand from below low water level mark. Down there....
Its a big job. Good exercise. Will give you strong arms and back muscles.

i am not sure what the 'merlin sand filter is' as i havent seen one, do you have details about it? Perhaps its better to convert it into a chamber holding phosphate remover or active carbon? else i think that sump looks far better and less maintenece
just a heads up about that pollution Riaan was talking about, its really worth while trying to get away from pollution as much as you can, and I think langabaan might not be such a good location to get sand from.
