My new tank project

Hi Scuba, the black silicon is difficult to work with a shows up blemishes really easy.
No the stand in the pic is def not my stand. It's just something they are using to stand the tank on until my proper stand arrived, which it did on Thur. It is galvanised and a lot thicker.
I am probably going to go for a centre bracing (as much as I don't like it), but will request if it can be made a little slimmer than the 300mm mentioned by LFS.
Centre bracing - showing off the nice bevelled rim VERSUS Euro bracing redone with clear silicon?

no worries dude i agree the black silicone is tricky to work with, as for the top bracing if i remember the tank is 1.3 in length? even a .100 - .150mm strip in 10mm glass should suffice to tension the width pressure.. id also rather go for thicker bracing as im sure the black silicone in the top bracing is going to kill a little light penetration.. im currently on a .750 wide tnk and contemplating a .800 as i have to build a new stand anyway..

Hi Leslie,
I am a little confused? What do you think can be the minimum centre bracing width can be. LFS said 300mm.
If I go for a centre bracing, then the lfs will remove the side mounted euro bracing pieces. Therefore I will only have 1x 300mm centre piece going across the top of the tank and this will be mounted with clear silicon to not look out of place and break the rim line along the side profile.

The tank is 1350l x 800w x 600h. This is a big tank and whilst the dimensions seem great on paper, I would recommend 750w or even 700w as it will look more in proportion. But dimensions must be seen first to get an idea - anyway, am still happy and just keen to get going.
Lets hope the LFS get the centre piece asap on Monday.

PS: I also got my OCTX200 skimmer today. Looks awesome, the box is not as big as I thought. So will look at running some vinegar on Monday - am busy doing assignments right now.

So please let me know what you think.
Cheers

warren its a difficult one as i am meddleing here but i just ant it rite for you.. i know these guys have made many tanks before but im sure you paying top dollar for this monster..

id suggest talking to them, keeping the "all round" bracing concept in 10mm or thicker and trying to leave out the center, if possible.

id advise you not to go with only a center brace ,i have seen too many of these fail before..

rather fix now than mop a carpet and have your dreams splashed all over the carpet..

i may seem a bit sticky about a tank build but remember its alot of pressure and little kids (yours or visitors) dont always understand that things like this cant be knocked on in the excitement of seeing nemo.. always design and build a structurally sound glass tank..

My opinion will coincide with Leslie. Get the builder to have a look at a few tanks built with black silicone by some of the other sponsors on this forum. I am sure it will be in their best interest to present a masterpiece knowing that eyes are on this build. Hope you can resolve amicably.

Oh and remember every day you look at the tank you will see what you are not happy with. So get it sorted now before you get talked into something you may regret.

Hi all, so I believe the silicon issue has been redone and I am going to see it tomorrow.
So if all goes according to plan, then the installation will go ahead on Monday.
I have a quick question though.
I have had 2 purple face gobies for roughly 10 months now. All has been fine until 2 weeks ago where the 1 goby is attacking and biting the other senseless. His fins are completely finished and he hides out in other areas of the tank, looking like he is on the verge of death.
I don't understand how from being a pair to being an enemy this has happened so suddenly.
Any thoughts or ideas?
There have been no new additions or changes to the tank of late.

Thanks Boendoe, I've been busy on the net, but am now just waiting for the final installation. So fingers crossed, next week,I will have something to show.

Finally the tank has arrived and is set up in my lounge.
Dimensions! Man talk about the tape measure lying. The tank is 1350l x 800w x 600.
Whilst I took the size of our doors into account regarding the tank - it seems I forgot to include the stand dimensions into the equation.
So like a true burglar, I made use of carpeting to haul a >30kg tank stand over wall-spikes, razor wire and four 2.1m walls in our no-longer-secure Complex.
Sorry no pics; the humour was lost on me at the time.
Will post a few now of tank set up and installed.
However, no water as the bracing is still not 100% dry on the 1 side, so we have to delay the fill until Monday.
My old tank has been taken down and the fish are off to the LFS tanks (not 4 sale).
So take a look and let me know what you think.

i am trying to re-size the pics to post. Am running Mac, so trying to figure out how.
Need some time
