Hotdog's Maxed Out Reef 650

Cool, thank you. But just thinking, won't the space between lights and algae then also be an issue for corals when tank lights are not directly against top of tank? Obviously closer is better, but how close is close enough. It is fine about the acrylic tube if it doesn't work, have lots of other uses for it, like building a trap for collecting fish off Durban or using it to build a lanthanum chloride reactor.

The problem with double sided tape is then that it is going to be between the LED's and the reactor, so will then also have a reduction in light. The spacers will have to be close to each other else some parts of the strip will also touch the acrylic again. At least I have space now to add another 5 meters of red LED's, as I think red is anyway better for growth than cool white. Will evaluate the chaeto growth and make another plan if it doesn't work like this. Wonder if wrapping aluminium foil around outer tube will help with better light as well.

This is my fish list currently in the tank (pipe fish still need to be transferred after QT is done):

Different applications so not sure the comparison works.

I was thinking small sections , in between the leds . If the strip is not pulled tight it will follow the curve of the reactor so should not touch.

Anyway , just an observation ........

I am in the process of converting a Skimz reactor for my cheato, mainly to limit the light spilling into the room at night. I will be printing some clips to get the strip away from the plastic.

Let us know how it turns out.

Cool, please post pics of what you are going to do with the reactor, might go a similar route, maybe just 4 vertical clear perspex strips from Maizeys stuck on reactor outside to lift the strips off the perspex.

Stunning tank, and you've got the ultimate wish list of fish, very nice.

Haha, prerequisite is that TOTM has to be a year old to be considered, still lots to do here, nowhere near that old. It is easy to set up a nice looking tank, not so easy to keep it thriving and stable for a year plus.

Ok, so the chaeto growth in reactor has definitely slowed down a bit. Getting the 5 meter red strip of LED's today, hopefully that works, together with aluminium foil around the LED's, else I'll make another plan to bring it closer to chaeto. But won't be able to fit both strips on the reactor itself, so need to decided if more light further away or less light closer is better. Could also be that the nutrients are a bit low, the diatoms on the glass also doesn't really grow a lot currently.
