Hotdog's Maxed Out Reef 650

Hmmm, Wonder if it will work if I wrap bubble wrap and then clear packing tape around reactor before wrapping LED's around

Ok, found some acrylic tubing, going to put it around the reactor and put LED's on there rather:

Yeah, I think main issue is when flow stops and it creates a heat spot against acrylic

I still have some (650mm length) of that perspex tube left (200mm diameter), was pretty expensive and had to buy by the meter, but can sell for R600 or swap anyone for something I would want like a nice soft or lps coral colony. Else I thought I might attempt building something else out of it like a jellyfish tank

@hotdog83 I like your idea to avoid heat on the reactor but in truth I really don't see heat given of by those LEDs as being significant enough to have any negative effects on the reactor body (think how many T5 light units have their splash guards made out of acrylic). The insulating material the LEDs are covered in is a poor conductor of heat and thus no significant amount of heat will be transferred onto the reactor body and the heat that is will easily be conducted out by the water.

The other concern that I would have is a lack of PAR that reaches the cheato from those LEDs when not up against the reactor body. The fact that those leds do not have lenses will mean that the par will decrease exponentially the further the LEDs are from the reactor.

Just my thoughts...

I have no idea, just seen to many of these pop on forums

Also , I wonder how curvature and thickness of reactor walls will affect par readings inside the reactor ?

I've also heard about personal experience of chaeto reactors cracking when LED's are up on the glass, so will sleep much better at night without them up against reactor. Going to add another 5m strip of red LED's, as the bigger diameter outside tube allows me the space.

Managed to transfer the remaining fish from the flobin. Was presently surprised to find my multibar alive and healthy after adding it to flobin a few months ago without really seeing it until today:

I've been one of those guys thats had it crack.
@hotdog83 I just worry the light's are bit to far away from the cheato for it to work 110%
The point is to getblight coverage around and through the cheato 360°. The outta surface is going to grow and black any further growth in the reactor.
Just my thoughts and experience with these reactor.

Cool, hopefully the extra 5m of red lights will help, will see how chaeto grows now.

@hotdog83 the growth of algae within the chamber and distance from led would definitely limit the transmission of light. I guess now that you have dropped >1k on the perspex you are invested in seeing if it will work. Evaluate and if not ...............

Maybe some spacers to move the lights away from the acrylic ? Thinking double sided tape will do the trick , the thick mirror mount stuff:

The most common cracked reactor mentioned on-line is Two Little Fishies as the acrylic is reportedly thinner .
