Hennie's 540L Jebo 1.5m

Tank has settled nicely. Great choice of inmates I see there. Love that copper band.

So time for an update. Over the weekend I added a ATU and a auto water changing station. So it drains and pumps the NSW back to the tank. 10% water change

ATU cost me R200.
1 x float switch - Got it from @shaunn
1 x 12v relay with base. R150
1 x 700l/h pump - Had this lying around
1 x 12v power supply. Had one from old cordless phone.
Plumbing R50
Drum - Had it already

This is the white drum in the photo. Pump is plumbed inside the drum and used a bulkhead to connect it to the pipe outside.

Auto Water changing station - R600
1 x 2500l/h pump bought for R400
Plumbing R200
Heater
Mixing pump and Heater.

Both stations done.

How far is the tank from the drum?
Will also like to do something like this..

The corner for the wall next to the white drum is where the tank starts. So its close. Have to pump the water about 1.5m up.

I don't think distance is a problem. It will only cost more the further away the tank is.

I got my idea from @Nippy. He has the pipe running through the ceiling and its about 10 meter away.

Your pump must just be powerful enough.

That took some planning to get it right. Now, just to remember the sequence of the valves.

Updated pic of my tank.

Had to move the pin cushion. He was getting too big and touching the glass. So could not clean there.

My favorite coral. Has doubled in size in a month.

Aquatronica

Hi

Small update. I bought an Aquatronica control unit from @Nippy. I used the shelves that came with the tank to build a box to house the unit. I have attached everything to the computer. Programmed my water change with a function key. This is quite a nifty feature. I still need to tidy everything up.
The top power bar is connected to my Intellipower 4 UPS. The bottom bar is on normal power.

Some photos of the installed unit.

think its time to post a new full tank picture. :)

Ok RiaanP asked for a update so here it goes.

In October I bought a Powder Blue Tang. The beautiful fish with the dreaded WS. Mine was doing fine and then after four weeks. BAM! WS outbreak. I lost 10 fish. It was very sad and I almost gave up and sold everything (Wife convinced me not to  ). Had to take out all my LR to catch my fish to quarantine them. I bought a dedicated quarantine setup for this purpose and setup it up in the garage.

I did not feel like doing scraping so I just put all the LR back in one big pile. I looks ok. The tanks had a outbreak of cyano and all parameters spiked. It was looking dreadful.

After 3 months the tanks is finally look good again. All parameters are back to normal and I can take some photos of it again :)

Here is some photos of the tank. Enjoy!

sorry about the whitespot. But great to have a dedicated quarantine system.

Tank coming back nicely now.

Jebo R228 Converted to SW

Hi Hennie,
I am pretty new at this since I converted my 1,5m Jebo to SW only 4 weeks ago.
I built a skinny overflow box at the back of the tank and drilled two 32mm for it. Next I built a 1,2m x 400mm x 350mm sump.

My question is this since I have heard some bad stories........:

Is the bottom of the Jebo stand sturdy enough to support the additional weight of the sump, water and LR. I built a steel frame to replace the middle support inside the cabinet and added three plastic "feet" to the bottom of the stand in the middle (hope that makes sense)

Kindly give your opinion.

Hi NatieS

Welcome to MASA. I hope you enjoy your stay and learn a lot. I have :)

I did not convert the tank my self but I can tell you that it is strong enough. Extra support was added in the back and in the middle as can be seen from the photo below.

The tank has 50kg of substrate and +-50kg of LR in.

When I got the tank the middle front panel was bolted in place but I saw how difficult it was working in the sump when we dismantlement the tank.

So when I did the setup at my house I did not secure the panel with bolts but merely placed it so I could remove it when I needed to work in the sump. I reckoned that if I could not remove the panel after the tank was full and all rock in place it meant that the panel was needed for support.

Turns out that with the added middle brace in the front is enough to hold the weight and the panel was still loose and I could remove it. This realy helps with sump maintenance.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask if there is anything else.

Hi

Just a small update. I was very happy to discover the other day that my pair of percula clown-fish spawned. I tried to take a photo of the eggs but that was very difficult to get a clear photo of them. I am not planning to raise them.

Just super psyched because this mean my tank is very stable at this point.
