Help needed on tank building

Hi ,i have a 3 foot and want to build a 5 foot tank ,but i want to use temper glass ,
can it be used and if can what tikness .Tank size 1520mmx530mmx530mm, some says
8mm for standerd glass and temper glass can be thinner but what size.
pleas help......!

welcome dude,

firstly tempered is not necessary for a build off this size , and 8 mm may work out more expensive than 10mm. i would suggest 10mm float glass with 80mm euro bracing on the top and 50mm euro bracing around the bottom glued to the base for extra support.

why not consider going wider, say .700 and a little higer .600mm this will offer you more scope in terms of scaping and a bigger viewing area.

what kind of overflow are you going for?

i will post a link to some of the tanks i have built? to assist in iillustrating what i am saying.. 1.5mm is a very popular size here in East London.

Hi Les thanks for you help but it was my fault my tank is a tropical tank and as you know the higer you go the thikker th glass goes and the higer the prys also goes.I live in Port Elizabeth and if you buy a 4 foot you will pay around R3500

knife i definatley would not go with tempered.. stick with 10mm and you will be safe..

What? That is a rip off. I paid for my 1500x600x500 high made from 10mm, only R1500.

I am pretty interested in some customized holding tanks but I know that when it comes to building tanks, I should rather leave it to professionals. You seem to have a very good knowledge and experience base.

Any chance of convincing you to get involved in a project and if YES where are you located. Really would appreciate any help
