collecting in ballito

hey guys i have been playing around in the rock pools here in ballito, and i have found a few small rocks with some zoas and polyps on just a quick question i found a snail it has a beautiful shell but its really a strange snail when it comes out it look likes it loses the whole shell with itself and the other question found this small rock with zoas on and on the other side of the rock it look like a kind of mussel but there are these little heads that come out and looks like these tongues stick out of the heads i just want to know if both are reef safe or not and if i get home can i just put everything or should they be dipped sorry for the bad pics my bucket is black. thanks guys please let me know:yeahdude:

hi keeganp yeah i did get my permit no worries there dont worry i did it the right way lol, no its not a hermit its a snail im sure because when it comes out the snail covers the shell and it does stick to the buckets its def a snail

Will help us older guys to understand you a bit better. Do you really say all of that in one breath when talking?

Anyway.
The snail, is the body about 3 to 4 times longer than the shell? Does the shell looks very fragile? And the shell looks too small to be able to hold the snail?

And must admit, not a good picture.
 
Hey Riaanp thanks for the post, sorry for the punctuation problem never really used it lol. The snail I returened to the ocean only took the zoas and green star polyps with me hme. All made it home and are opening up all the way with no problems. Yes the snail also looked to big for the shell, but a beautiful shell it was like those you find in the gift shops.
 
I forgot their name now. But snail have a blue colour ring on its edges. If yes, they are pretty. But they are specialist eaters. As in only spaghetti worms. Will not last in your tank. Shell is very colourful banded and looks extremely thinly walled.

Then I'm glad I returend it to the ocean dnt want to kill anything, my tank have so many minuture snail but they dnt clean my glass at all, if you have 1 or 2 small snails that you dnt need I would be happy, I too am in centurion.

Need to find new home for them else they will starve. Totally cleaned out my second tank of all the algae in there. In 3 weeks.

mmmm Ballito itself .... yeah but try to find tidal pools that have most of their water replenished during tide changes ... If you look at Salt Rock or Thomsans Bay tidal pools the water does get get changed proportionally enough to have "fresh" sea water .... with a result specimens caught in these pools need alot of acclimatising as our tank waters are "cleaner" than that of pools (supposed to be) that dont have huge water changes ... So my experience taught me to look for more "open pools" to catch your stuff in .... they will more easier to feel at home in your tank ..... Also try Umhlanga, Umdloti and all time hot spot Sheffield ... All close by and teeming with sea life ... Also try to catch spring tides ..... then you can go a little deeper for them goodies .....
 
agree with Chikaboo, all the areas mentioned above are great for collecting juvenile reef fish.
 
Hi Guys. Got my lisence but where am i allowed to collect soft coral. And what types. Looking at rock pools. From what i understand tidal pools are mpa areas. Is this correct or is there tidal pools where you are allowed. Got frag plugs. So want to do small frags.
