Clownfish breeding adventures / log

One of the broodstock pair awaiting their new house.

Those look familiar...

Geez, clowns, chromis, cardinals....you must have about 50 tanks running. :p

Ok, so the schedule have been moved a little and we are building the broodstock tank for the clown pairs tonight. It will be a 120cm tank with some baffles, like a sump, which will be used to house the romantic couples! The system will be plumbed into a 90cm sump which will most probably be run with a mud refugium.

Ill post some pictures again of the progress.

Im also in the process of phasing out the 24h light source on the baby clowns very gradually. Exciting times.

Here is the video of the chromis spawning...

Enjoy.

ok, so we are on 17 DPH and the two little ones are going strong. Its time to get them onto prepared foods. Im still supplementing with banana worms but i will gradually phase this out together with the rotifers. Ill be using cyclops as first food and ill be enriching it as well.

THis is the banana worm culture i use. They are very very tiny and stay alive more than 24h. They also riggle crazy in the water and attract alot of attention.

The culture are kept going on cooked oats once every 3-4 weeks or so and some yeast sprinkled over, boom. Lekker low maintenance.

Im also still awaiting my brineshrimp eggs in order to hatch and enrich some extra food.
The two percula clowns started some mating dancing some hopefully they will come round with some eggies!!!

Also the male banggai has got a clutch in his mouth, lol. While he is busy with them i am going to try and pair the female up with another lonesome male that ive been powerfeeding, so he is in good shape. With these fish a good male is key, seeing that they go so long without food while incubating the eggs in the mouth.

Could anyone tell me what salinity should one use for the clownfish hatched larvae to go into if say your DT is 1.025 & the Rot culture is 1.020
Look after the clowns & the rots will live ok in that or do it the other way around or go middle of the road?
Got some that should be hatching tonight & going to have an attempt, at present have 1.020 water for them which i guess will rise a little getting them in there.(if i can catch em)

THe clownfish eggs are relatively hardy before hatching, but same cannot be said about the larvae once hatched. Therefor it depends if you want to transfer the eggs or the larvae after hatching, but the idea is to keep the SG exactly the same as the main tank. Therefor its best to use the same water from the display tank. Its best to filter with a sieve the rotifiers out and introduce them in theis manner, therefor not affecting the SG of the holding tub. Hope this makes sense. Please feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

Ok, ok ill see what i can do tonight. The pairs are in their new house - 1.2m with dividers for the broodstock pairs. My one clarkii carpet surfed, thus leaving me with 3.
The 2 maroons are still pairing up and feeling each other out. Ill try and snap some pics tonight...

Thanks! i understand what your saying.....had been just waiting for them to hatch in the main tank & catch them then with a O2 bubble/lit pole method but lose interest after waiting till 230am & they still haven't sprouted (twice now), they seem to be doing it after then......
