Bad Advice or No Advice

Still made in the same factory.... as all the others.

hehe no actually not. I recently did a test on a tank using a hagen, sera, reef lab and a tropic marin kit and the calcium readings ranged from 220ppm through to 380 ppm.... now what?
Ca is one of the harder things to test.... Salifert Ca test kits all the way for me.... Sorry I will not post more off topic stuff here.

I must go to Spar quickly to get some salt for my replacement water.... :)

It would not be viable for one supplier to have a factory that can produce salt, pumps, lights, ballasts, test kits, heaters, hydrometers, ph controllers, skimmers, calcium reactors and and and.

One supplier may ask for different compunds in the salt to another....
Agree 100% but just because they made in the same factory does not make the products equal. I am also sure the factories producing salts aren't trying to manipulate minor trace elements like copper in the salts for various suppliers, but yet all the salt brands carry different levels of minor trace elements.

I went to a LFS yesterday only to see them putting their blood sweat and tears into building what looked like a great tank, nice size, 12mm glass, holes drilled and all.. a bit narrow but OK.. there was a sectioned off compartment on the side with a C2C overflow.. when I enquired why the compartment was so big, the chap looked up all proud and said....

' oh, thats for the bio balls..:014:

Sorry, Reefer I only saw this thread today

You are right that Hailea manufactures chillers pumps ect for AM and Reef Octo among many, however I would like to correct you on the misconception that giessemann lamps are made in china. They are made by Narva in germany under a licence held by D-D aquariums and Geissemann who developed the specific spectrums over 2 years of research. Many people would have you believe that all globes are equal and theres are cheaper but they are not.

Then you stated :It would not be viable for one supplier to have a factory that can produce salt, pumps, lights, ballasts, test kits, heaters, hydrometers, ph controllers, skimmers, calcium reactors and and and.

You are correct, but this is why Tropic Marin don`t do pumps, chillers or any other hardware for tanks, Instead they produce the finest synthetic salt, additives and test kits out of their own factory in europe which also produces certain pharmacutical products for the EU.The process used to manufacture the salt is very different to other salts, they use a plowshare plasma process which mixes the elements 100% and then produces every salt crystal evenly and equally. This process means that if you could mix only one salt crystal with the right amount of pure H2o you will have all 52 elements in the right amounts. This is very different to just blending alot of chemical in a box and claiming to be premium.

I hope you reseach more thorouly next time, Please shout if you need any more info or if I can assist you whith any of these products.

Thanks Adam for clearing that up. Im always up for corrections.

Adam,

Off the top of your head, do you know if they are the only ones to use this process? Sorry, this might be a bit off topic.

As far as I am aware they are the only ones to use this process, My understanding is this is also very complicated to do and is more costly than other processes, but gives unbeatable consistency.

There is also the difference between synthetic salt and natural sea salt, which is collected in salt pans. Both synthetic and natural sea salt are available in S.A.

Check the ingredients and process that is used the next time you are in a store.

Then make educated choices, and maybe educate the guy in the store too.

I think most marine hobbyists are very set in their ways of doin things and if they find it works for them well u aint changing their minds, some of us are different we try everything that seems practical , if it works use it , just my 2c. Yes their is bad advice out there and good so all we have to do is just size em up and think
