Hi guys im wanting to set up a nano cube tank and have been looking at my options for a skimmer. I have been looking at red starfish skimmers as well as the aquaria magic wave 102 skimmer. The aquaria is half the price and will fit the chamber easly. Can anyone let me know how these skimmers are or if i should just spend the extra money and get the red star?

Overall literage of my cube will be 100L including sump built into the back.

Any reason why those two specifically? I am using a bubble magus qq2 for my tank and I'm really happy with it.

Was looking at one of these but unfortunately its just a but to pricy compaired to these two I have mentioned. The aquaria is abour R570 and the red star is R1299

I have a Aquaria Magic Wave 102 complete tank as well as my sister, we bought at the same time. I was a little skeptical at first about the skimmer, but now the tank has been running for 8 weeks plus, I use to empty the collection cup once sometimes twice a day!, I have now drilled a little hole and ran a pipe to a 5L bottle. Within a week it must of pulled 750ml or more of brown gunk already. They tend to take 2 -3 weeks to break in.

Besides the collection cup being small. Are they loud or have you had any issues with them?

Not too sure about the rating, my tank is less than half the rating for that skimmer (although I have a high stock density; https://www.marineaquariumsa.com/threads/brents-cube.81150/page-5). It seems to easily look after my corals. Sorry if I've added a spanner in the works :m85:

What model of red starfish were you looking at getting? A good gauge (at least how I understand it) is is to check the pump size and the amount of air the venturi is able to suck per hour. If you can compare that between skimmers you'll probably have an idea of which is the better skimmer.

I do like the tunze 9001 and would ve prefect except for the price point... for red star I think its the sk- 90 or 100.

The sk 70 is round about the same size pump (and assuming similar air draw) as the qq2 (see the picture below). So if you go with the larger red star, you'll probably get better skimming...

Okay thank you, i think i'll go with the red star and build my internal sump around it. Will start a tank build thread once i get everything together :m106:

I was going to fit a SP600 Needle wheel pump which I bought, but will keep as back up, got a Jewel Skimmer 3.0 on its way which I bought from a fellow reefer here on MASA as additional backup.
