Algae Problem

Hi anybody have experience of getting rid of Grape Caulerpa (Caulerpa racemosa) in an aquarium?
Will a Foxface (Siganus vulpinus) eat it? Any other advice?
The Caulerpa is really a major headache.

Yes, may foxface does eat grape caulerpa, but you milage might vary.

Any algae in a marine aquarium needs nutrients to grow. Control the nutrients and you control the algae.

Yes I know phosphates and nitrates test 0 or very low, so how can it be nutrients. Well the algae used all those nutrients. I've come to a stage in my tank that I have to overfeed to keep my Caulerpa alive and growing. The moment I stop/half the feeding, my Caulerpa start dying back.

So to get back to the original point, control the nutrients and you'll control the algae.

My advice...weather the storm...just keep doing the basics...AC also told me that the long spined sea urchin is a good grazer....I have them breeding in my quarintine tank...if you find yourself in this area

will a sea urchin not do any harm to any corals?

This is part of what I am dealing with. I will admit to feeding rather heavily, we feed the Bubble coral and a few Hairy musrooms. I am going to cut down on the feeding. Dont know how Mr Clown is going to like it, he /she is six years old. Sorry Galibore I have hijacked your thread! Should have started a new one but thought it fitted well.

Well said cybervic, agree 100%. BTW do yourself a favour and change your Caulerpa for some Cheato, i did the change about 3 months ago and have never looked back, much better for your water quality.

The tips of some of the tufts of algae are turning white! I think it's dying!!!!!!

Mg is at 1620 ppm.

I have an algae tank that I think could probably top vipers for first place, all live stock will be out in a day or two - think i'll try raise MG up to around 1700 and will see if it works....how much did you raid per day Gali?

SIMS, apparently elevated magnesium levels only assist in the removal of Bryopsis algae.

About 100 per day as per Viper's recommendation. Didn't have to raise much as Tropic Marin Pro Reef already come with approx. 1200 mg/l magnesium. But it was quite a mission as adding the sup didn't seem to have an effect on the mg at first, then all of a sudden it started rising.

Don't feel alone Sims... %$#&@# HA has got me too

How many of you with hair algae are using BLV metal halides?
