Adee's v2

LOL. Dude i'm making some progress slowly but surely. Trying to keep myself motivated coz this wait....is just getting too long for me lol. Still gonna be another 4 months atleast before i can start doing some serious work on tank. Did some work on the stand this weekend tho. Gona try and sort out most of the cabintry now so long as well as any DIY work that needs to be done so that everything can just be assembled when we move to our new place. Still getting all the bits together for now.

I have bit of a set back....yesterday afternoon decided to start moving some of the LR on the top tank down below to the LR sump... inadvertently bumped one of the pieces on the rim. Thought nothing of it at the time as nothing was visible. Went to go pick up my daughter from school, came back to find the (10mm) glass cracked and all 600L emptying itself out onto the floor...

As the tank is very much in an inaccessible position to do a full glass replacement, will have to slide it out from the side and just work on the bit that I can get to, and do some sort of mend. Perhaps glue a length of glass on the inside and outside...as well as overhead bracing.

Me not a happy chappy at the mo. :(

I hang my head in shame !!!

Sorry to hear Adee :(

Shout if you need a hand

Obviously a lot of stress in the side panel for that fracture to take place off an unseen defect.

couple of points of advice
1) should the tank not be sitting on styrene to properly distribute the load.
2) how much deflection were you getting on the 2m panels? Is it not safer to fit some form of euro brace accross the 2m span?

I hate hearing of tanks fracturing apart !
I know the feeling, I lost a 8ft tank in my rented flat when I was away for a long weekend. I wasn't the popular kid on the block, I can assure you of that !
Why does it always happen when you are not there ?????????????????????????

All my tanks sit on styrene. Can't say on the amount of deflection...don't have a recording once filled with water. But you are right, in hindsight I should have put cross bracing to help lessen the pressure. At the rime, the crack sits about a quarter of the full length from the right of the tank, running diagonally to the base of the right corner.

I will also place an aluminium rim around the edging, less I go and repeat this again with my butter fingers.

sorry to hear about this have you managed to sort it out ?

Howsit guys, yep the sump is fixed and the sump is back online. I have moved some of the LR (very carefully) down below and looking to buy more LR to fill that sump.

I've had some bad luck on two of my colonies (that i had tranferred from my other tank). RTN set in and only the tiniest frag may make it. The difficulty is getting the stability of the Alk requirements right while adding LS and at the same I added a Kalk reactor to the mix so calculating the manuall dosing requirements has been a bit erratic.

Also stopped with the N & P pellets, the odd power outage was not helping as the stuff grows bac like mad and then clogs up as there was no flow going through it. So I'm back to sticking with heavy skimming, chaeto, LR and vodka (4ml daily) regime. I've now hooked up my fan (normal house variety) to a timer that ensures a bit of a breeze blows through, also maid has strict instructures to open up all the windows. Over the weekend the temp max seemed to hover at aroud 28 degrees at the suns peak power. All this and with no chiller installed (for now). Having the sump part (large volume) in the shaded area (frag tank above), also acts as a heat sink that limits the water on top from getting to warm.

I've got a second skimmer (BB 5000) that I will hook up as well for added skimming, maybe up the vodka dosing as well. I have almost no noticable diatom build-up on the glass and tank it still totally GHA free.

Need to start working on the main DT and start laying the DSB....just not enough hours in the day to do everything....taking it bit by bit.
