Hey guys,

So has anyone ever seen a vivarium style reef/marine tank?

It was just a thought I had, and it would be really cool if one could pull this off. Have a "shore" built on one side... and then going into the water and sort of have a side view of the ocean from a shore.

I have searched on the www andd could not find a marine tank this way. I did find an aquarium somewhere but cannot find the link anymore...

Hey Bud,

We have tried in our aquarium facility on campus, as we had a student studying shore crabs and snails... we had a "sandy shore tank" and a "rocky shore tank". The sandy shore was a lot harder to maintain, as the sediment kept shifting around (we were mimicking tidal flow) and as a result the sandy shore slowly eroded into just sand at the bottom of the tank.

The rocky shore tank however was a great success, with the exception that the barnacles bloomed and overtook the glass of the tank.
But the tanks have already been decommissioned now for use as exposure tanks... So sadly, I cant take pics for you

Would have been cool to see... I believe the correct term is a Paludarium.
