So lotsa ppl use playsand for a DSB. Can fine crushed coral be used....and how fine? Iv also heard of very small bioballs...almost like marbles that come in 450g packets for like R14 on average....do these work?

If the crushed coral is sugarfine it can be used. DOn't know about the bio ball marbles though

Wetty - why would you want to use bio-balls?

No - you don't need crushed coral or bio-balls.....

ONLY the DSB is/should be 100% for long-term filtration.... This is the absolute best....

I only heard about the Bioball thingies....was curious as to who has used them. Apparently they quite the rage in PTA...but havnt seen them here in JHB

How would you set a DSB with particles that size, you need to create anaerobic conditions for a DSB to function.
