Blood worms

Can be used but will be advisable to maybe liquidise them together with some frozen sea foods as on their own dont have much nutritional value to our hobby

Really? I have heard the opposite Chikaboo, that infact blood worm is the only frozen food that actually maintains some of its nutritional value.

However I have also heard that it is not really that good as a continued food source as its not a natural food for marine fish and thus can cause problems long term...yet others have said they have fed their fish on this for over 10 years with no adverse side effects, so who knows! :)

As with brine shrimp and even our own frozen veggies - It has to be done at the right stage in their growth or all you doing is preserving what stage they are in - so who's checking the bazillions of tiny worms are "ripe for the freezing" - Be safe and give them fishies some variety so if its lacking in one their daily intakes can be compensated by the others

Agree, I would not feed frozen food as a sole food source, more as something different for their diet once or twice a week.

I just take it that no frozen foods really have any nutritional value and dose them with lots of vitimins before feeding. :p

blood worms are an excelent frozen food, especially with newly introduced fish as its readily recognised as a food source by many fish. I wouldnt grind them all up to be honest, i woulkd def use some as whole food.

just note with frozen foods you must defrost the food well before using it. I use some RO water in a glass and the drain the water off once the food is defrosted. thats because the water can contain high phosphates and worse amonia (if its starting to rot) which you dont want to be introducing

very interesting Crispin.i am also feeding frozen brine shrimp.i put mine in a shooter glass [ just a little bit ] and take a little bit of water out of the tank to defrost it with i would say not even half a shooter glass of water.the thing is that when i feed i put everything in water that i defrosted with and all:whistling: do you think that such a small amount could be bad? should i rather drain the water then feed?

yeah, def rather drain the water:)

Tank water or RO is no real diffs to defrost with, but the end water shouldnt really go into the tank
