The Bryopsis thread.

Alan i read somewhere on zeovit.com that kalwasser is high in nutrients.is this true?

Mekaeel, i am not too sure, i know you get different grades of kalk. I have been adding kalk using the slurry method to my system for a few months now with out any ill effects, in fact the system seems to be thriving on it.

Nope, not yet. I know Dragonreef has also been using slurry for a while now and he is getting exceptional growth at the moment.

Hi All - everyone probably knows I too have the "bryopsis" problem in my tank.... AND I have now done nearly EVERYTHING to lower my nitrates in my tank....
The last thing I have started to do, is to raise my pH and Alkalinity...
Will see if this works for me too....
Cheers!

I heard somewhere that increasing your Magnesium to 1400/1600 ppm will stunt the growth. I am sure Kanga tried this.

Hi Mekaeel - Thanks, will do... I will give the testing a week or two, and then post some updated pics.... I am trying the increased magnesium and pH method - will see.... (I have done EVERYTHING else, except the biggest step of all - following Viper's route of "cooking" the rock... that would be my last resort though ;-)

Hill is right, it is known to work, you need to keep elevated magnesium level for about 3 months.

I did try it Hill, you saw the bryopsis this last week, almost zero and stayinf there.

Well done, makes you feel a whole lot better about your tank doesn't it?

This weekend I am also going to to attempt to remove the last bit of my Bryopsis manually. Damn it's been a struggle. The one thing I think that has made the diddference is the Prodibio. Since adding it, the algae seemed to go away by itself. It's now just the last few patches that are stubborn.
