So what you guys say....?
 
Raise the water level by choking skimmer outlet. Dragon referred to that sweet spot. The bubble column should should end 2 - 3 inches from the end/top of the neck. Your water level is far to low
 
O and Sims... do not look at what Alan sucks from his toe nails and expect the same. He has two sand beds and the biggest bio load this side of the next sardine run. Your tank is bb and looks lightly stocked. Do you have a tank thread.
 
Sorry to sidetrack a bit here,

sunburst, SIMS, doesn't that skimmer have a riser tube that you can raise or lower in order to adjust the water level within the skimmer? Sunburst, why throttle it with a ball valve? Does it make a difference in which method you use?
 
Yeah Sims like Sean says the water level is way too low. Close the ball valve on the out let and get the small buubles rising so that they sit between your union fitting of the neck and the bottom of the cup.
Sit and watch the bubbles as you close the valve. The tiny bubbles must be in that area.
 
Hey all, yip I know the water level is a bit low but thought it was correct to raise the correct level over a few hours? Shou;d I raise it so the bubbles are just below the bottom of the cup? No thread of my algae tank I don't have balls like Viper but it is BB and got 9 fish and a few corals.... Ok i'll raise the water level a bit now....
 
Sims take it straight to the mark. You will see quickly if it starts to overflow, then adjust back down if needed.

There's always a few cupfulls of spillage involved when tuning a skimmer :)
 
Thats just plain impossible. Nobody not even an Octo can suck up gunk like that in 10 min
 
Level is perfect for now.

1900 a bit fast but it's also ok. Give about 20 minutes and check to see what it's doing. If too much clear water is going into the cup then dial it back a fraction ;)
 
cool, I can trim it down a bit if need be... but will see haw it looks in 20 mins, Sunburst it was running with the water level on the lower point for a good hour so it was all in the neck - but thanks :lol:
 
Sorry Dragon. Maybe you right.
But Sims this is where you learn to dance on your own. You will develop your own fish sense(only men have it) and your tank will start to respond.

If your tank is responding so quickly.. then she desperately needs some serious stroking. That Octo extension... makes some serious music. Watch
 
Looking good Sims don't go higher than that. There's not to much clear water spilling into the cup so it looks almost perfect. Keep an eye on it, but if it stays like that then you're winning :)

By tomorrow morning 2 - 3 mils of skimmate ;)
 
yip no spill over at all yet - just some nice foam on the lid...will take some more pic's in the morning.....
