Hi everyone, something I have been thinking about for a while, is whether or not we should separate the sales threads from the New Posts link?

Our sales section is very busy and often overpowers the normal reefing discussion threads. Do you think it would be a good idea to have a separate button at the top toolbar for sales threads only? And then when you click on "New Posts" there will be no sales threads displayed, only reefing threads.

Good idea or not?

Its a good idea from the outlook, but I think it would detract interest from both forums. Often a person may see a sale thread in the new post section and be interested in an item or looking at sale items and be interested in articles. Especially if someone has commented on an old article.

the guys camping out in the for sale section just stays in there anyway. Thinking MASA is Gumtree.

but maybe Haffy is on to something.

Alternative option.

Do list the For sale threads under New Posts. BUT, only until I viewed that thread one time. When it was originally listed, and I did checked the sale, do not show it again for me under New Posts regardless of how many new posts were added to it. If I were not interested the first time I saw the thread, then do not keep on showing it to me for every new post added to it.

If I really want to follow a sales thread I can use the "Watch Thread" option at the top of the page.

The other thing is, if anyone wants to follow a particular forum, say for instance hardware or livestock sales or particular articles, all they have to do is click on that particular forum

Yes from my side.

I would much more like to log in and see threads on actual reefing / issues.

If I'm in the market for equipment I would log in and browse the for sale section.

Great idea, prefer seeing the advice side of the forum when i log in and might find it less annoying to feel like i am on gumtree and perhaps i will find it possible to ignore the backyard businesses posing as members, mods, contributors
Lets make MASA great again:m01:

separate the sales threads from the New Posts link?
This has been implemented, on a bit of a trial-run basis to see how it is received by the members.

The New Posts link will now exclude all sales threads.

To access sales threads you will see a new link in the top navigation bar:

Please provide feedback after a few days if you like the change or not. Thank you. :)

Change it back

Isn't it possible to separate the for sale posts from new posts while still having the hardware and livestock for sale tabs on the home screen? Then if you want to see the sales you can just click on those like before.

Now on tapatalk I can't see for sale threads unless I go to forums, for sale then livestock or hardware. Before it just used to all appear under the unread tab.

Sales are not our priority, hobby advice and support is. I would recommend browsing the site using your browser instead of Tapatalk, the site is fully responsive on mobile devices and you then get all of the additional features from the forum that you don't get on Tapatalk, such as:

(I've stolen this list from another reefkeeping forum because I'm lazy :p)

Why would you want to use the mobile version over the tapatalk app?

1. The mobile version looks better, way better! It fits your screen. (you can even rotate your mobile device for a bigger landscape view)
2. The mobile version includes all the options of the full forum. (new media add-on, articles section and more.)
3. The mobile version includes add-ons that don't work with tapatalk. (you're missing out)
4. The mobile version allows you to receive important alerts from us.
5. The mobile version allows you to see the latest contests and giveaways.
6. The mobile version allows you to customise your experience more.
7. The mobile version allows you to take part and vote on Polls.
8. The mobile version allows you to see important news and articles on the home page that you can't see on Tapatalk.
9. The mobile version is more secure.
10. The mobile version doesn't rely on a third party provider.
11. At some point we may disable the option to use tapatalk for our forum.

The mobile site rocks.

@viper357 is it possible to adjust the sale section such where the unread posts are on the top like how it used to be in the normal format?

Unfortunately it is limited in that regard. It functions similar to the "Recent Posts" link. New or latest replies and threads will still always appear at the top like normal, but once you have read a thread it will not disappear like on New Posts.

Its perfect the way it is now Dean. As you said, focus on reefing and advice and learning. Should make it easier to be more active without having to count to ten when I see the backyard gumtree mod posters ply their trade
