I have a sand nenny, if you want him stay put you need to move the sand away, dig a little hole. They put the plastic pipe in place to keep the sand away, you then put his foot in the pipe and keep it there for a few minutes till he attaches himself. Fill up the whole around the pipe higher than pipes mouth. Don't worry he will push the sand out of it is in the way.
Just a warning, they hate high flow and mine doesn't like to much light.... I know weird right!
I never used the pipe method but have others do it. I just dug a whole at the base of my rock and put the nenni there and he has staid put.
