Restarting 250 MAX

Unfortunately due to my lack of testing, some of my parameters have gone way out of line and the corals are starting to show it :(

Alkalinity- 6.8 dkh
Mag- 1580ppm
Ca-500ppm

Is there anyway to naturally decrease Mag levels without a big water change? I assume it is the salt I’m using that has contributed to the peak of it. As for the alkalinity I’ve gone back to dosing 8.4 by aqua vitro.

That alkalinity is spot on IMO. Good to target a range of 6-7, know of big sps tanks running at that and getting STN if alk goes above 8. The magnesium should come down eventually, but it should not cause harm, some people up it to that to combat Bryopsis.

So would you say it was the alk swing caused from the stop of dosing 8.4? While I was dosing it kept my levels at around 9 dKh. My frogspawn has only opened very slightly this past week and there is a newly growing head I just discovered from it being closed. No tissue on any of the corals has receded and colors are still popping.

Haven’t dosed for calcium in a month after I noticed it wasn’t really dropping from 450ppm. Between that time to now I’ve had substational coraline growth and decent coral growth and yet it still climbed from 450 to 500ppm...

Could be if it dropped too quickly. What fish are in there, any angels?

Nothing seems like it can cause the corals to suffer at least, unless it is something to do with hardware like too much flow or too much light. Can you post a pic of your frogspawn as it looks currently?

I do maybe also think it’s time for new T5 bulbs. The ones on the hood are a year old soon... maybe the PAR has dropped near the sandbed and that’s why the frog is the only coral showing signs of stress.

Could be, although Euphyllia generally do well under lower light levels. Are there any corals close to it that can sting it? What is the tank temperature? Does it fluctuate a lot during the day?

Temp stays stable at 25.5 degrees Celsius.

Only thing I can imagine bothering it physically is my sand sifting star or my Nenny crab. Have a torch coral Near it but not close enough to have fight with one another

Ok, then it closing is quite weird. Post a pic if you can?
