Replacing Cheato

Hi all. Been doing some research and would like to see if there are people who actually replace their cheato after a while.

Never heard of anyone replacing it. Normally you just prune it as needed

Won't there be nutrients that get trapped in the the cheato causing spikes in nitrite/trate?

Thats why you put it in a moderate flow area so its continually tumbling.

ho often do you trim it?

As often as needed. Will depend on how much you have, how high your nutrients are etc
Should have added to previous comment, if it it trapping detritus you can give it a good shake every now and then to get rid of it

I will probably have to remove a piece of glass in my sump to let the skimmer be before the cheato (and in the future a fuge)
