Hi all

I have had this neni for about 2 months now and it split yesturday. Does it look ok or do I have a problem. My nitrates and phos are high and I am getting it down slowly with water changes and cheato added to tank.

I read that they can split due to stress to keep the population going so I am not sure why it split.

I have added a pic of it now. The second one is behind a rock but this is the mother if i can put it that way.

How high are your nitrates and phosphates?
Anemones can split when stressed, but looking at the recent history of red bubbletips, it seems they are sitting for no reason and becoming a bit of a nuisance.

You're going to struggle to get those parameters down by doing water changes, you may want to consider gradually removing the bio balls and using NP Pellets or Bio cubes instead to tackle your high Nitrates and Phosphates.

How long has your tank been running? You may need to investigate what is causing such high nutrient levels, it may be a combination of overfeeding, bioballs, bad rock etc.

Been running more than a year now without issues.

I am the process of doing a change over on equipment and improving the filtering. I am going to start with bio cubes this weekend.

I must admit that I think I left water changes for tooooo long for a while and tht might have increase the levels. Also, my RO unit was not used correctly so the water added was basically tap water. I used both the clean and waste water

I noticed an increase afyer a water change and that let me to investigate. Realised I was using the ro unit incorrect. Tested the TSD on the initial ro water and ot was 86, same as tap water. Now as I am using it correctly the TDS is 6

please explain......can bioballs cause a increase in phos and no3?
Bioballs provide a large surface area for aerobic bacteria and are good at getting nitrites to nitrates, but thats where their use ends. You need anaerobic bacteria to complete the nitrogen cycle.
So bioballs arent too bad, provided you dont allow detritus to build up in them and you have other means of filtration.

ok thats how i understood it. My no3 also spiked for some reason but im going to try and move my matrix to a reactor over the weekend. Its not working as it should in the sump.
