hi guys needs some help my Malawi fish are all on the top surface like they gulping air

and I have 3 fish that have died is it because I don't have a air stone ?

or is it because my nitrates spiked ?
 
sounds like air, agitate the water with an egg beater or with your clean fingers. Keep up the agitation until you get an air stone or flow in the system.
 
alternative, use a jug, scoop out some water and dump it back in, the downward movement would help a lot with getting the surface moving.

A water change will also help, if you got extra RO.
 
thanks I just got to Fantasea now to buy a small air pump :-( I lost 3 smart fish
one guy told me I don't need airstone in my tank so I listen to him .
 
freshwater do need some sort sort of water movement.
flow pump or airstone.
 
thankx for the help guys really appreciate it . I just added the air stone just gona monitor the situation now
