So why don't you ? Come on .... what's life without a few challenges ( And that includes getting your better half to understand the need for yet another tank )
Haha wish I could but I'm still busy with my 1.8M. It takes all of my time and money at the moment! I will deffinitley start a nano when I'm finished with my tank, can't wait!!!!!
My Tank going for 4 weeks now and today my Cleaner shrimp decides to die...has molted twice laready and always happy to see me in the morning. Damn depressed...
zeolicious: I have kept 3 nano tanks and recently I bought the IQ3 thinking i might set it up as a salt water PICO tank.
I decided against it as even though I am used to keeping marine tanks, the PICO size means you need to be VERY careful with regards to parameters.
1. This tank is roughly 8.5L total capacity when empty! Put it substrate and live rock heaters etc and you're looking at around 5L max.
2. Even if you have great live rock and keep minimal livestock in the tank, you are going to have to be crazily diligent with RO water TOPUPS as evaporation occurs. No space for an auto topup (and it wont be sensitive enough to keep your SG constant).
3. If you want to get into marines this is definitely not the way i would advise you to do it. Rather look at a bigger system that will offer more stability, as well as more variety with regards to livestock.
We recently Bought a Dymax IQ3, had it running for 2 days (with a rock,a hand full of gravel and one, happy looking Orange occupant), Then it fractured on both sides in the middle.
I'll Post some pics,
I think it might be because of the feet (tension fractures at the bottom, and compression at the top), So adding some polystyrene pieces to the bottom so the floor is evenly loaded (and the sides too) might prevent it from fracturing more (or the same happening to another tank)...
I have received a mail from Dymax about the failure (requesting images), I sent these, so Lets hope for a reply (or recommendations on repair).. maybe I can try to fill the cracks with Methyl Acrylate (the stuff used to bond perspex, I got some from Plasticworld when building another tropical aquarium )
Welcome to MASA Danieldk, glad you joined. Please start a thread in the new members forum and introduce yourself, you'll get a welcome there from eveyone.
According to Dynax, this is due to a chemical reaction that weakened the tank, (it had been cleaned with some alcohol), It seems these ones cant hold their drink...
so, for future times, keep these away from any strong detergents and solvents (hairspray, Mr Min, Mr Muscle, Purple meths etc...)
Daniel - where EXACTLY are you staying? I see you have BOTH Randburg and Stellenbosch listed? Are you studying at Stellies? And your parents live in Randburg?
