Hi all,

I am looking at starting a new tank, I want to build it myself. I have uploaded a pic of the design, a few questions for the experts:

- Will a 5cm gap be too much for the overflow? Just worried about the look in regard to the water level.
- I have allotted 10cm (10cm x 55cm) for the overflow, i want to drill four holes. 3 for bean animal overflow and one smaller for return. Will 10cm be sufficient?
- The tank will be a 60cm cube, 55cm glass separating the overflow from the display, bean animal overflow to a sump.
- Probably Jebao DCP 4000 return pump, 2 ow25 wavemakers.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Mind the picture, basic design skills.

Decided to go with 3mm overflow, glass ordered. What do you guys recommend for paint that would be in contact with the water? I will need to paint the panel seperating the display from the overflow.

Isnt it better to use acrylic?

I'm not sure about paint that would stick to glass in the long run... I might be wrong though:m28: I bought a piece of 5mm black acrylic from Maiseys and am busy getting it laser cut now for the return pump hole and grid overflow... R50 laser cutting and acrylic cost R151 for a 30cm x 40cm x 5mm piece... It scratches more easily than glass, but it was the easiest option for me.

I have not had a problem with perspex or acrylic coming loose from glass, I make sure the surface is rough enough for silicone to adhere to as going straight to perspex doesn't work as silicone can not penetrate the perspex.
