What would you like to see us do differently?

Hi Guys/Gals
I have just spoken to Viper and we thought it would be a nice idea to see what you as members would like to see on MASA.

What new features do you think we need?

What can we do different to make it better for you?

What would you like to see more/less of?


Any suggestions are welcome

have a tank of the month of tanks with very low tech systems i.e not having all the fancy stuff etc

agree what about a budget tank of the month to let some of the people that has low tech systems show us how they do it, some people i suppose dont want to post their tanks because they belive that the tank of the month is sutch a high tech system that they feel shy to post their tank, they might think they are not up to standard with their diy setup. i might be wrong about that but i think not and maybe if we can have a few nice competitions to get more people intrested or we can maybe organise a once a year get together of marine people to have a braaii and nice chat. up at a more central location camping trip or something or am i getting of topick now. maybe someone can organise a online chatroom specially for people seeking advice we can maybe advertise the chatroom at the start page with a link to download the chat client like pal talk or something and have a moderator open the room at certain times of the day, it's free where people can join in to talk about things or just family can join in and have a nice time talking on the mic sing or whatever can be nice the room can be locked and password protected so your kids can come chat listen to music and be safe i think kanga can howl on the mic for us

Nakoma, why would you need another online chat room? surely this is what the forum is for - to ask questions etc, and we have a chatroom already, but the forum is the place to ask questions or post pics.

the idea about the chatroom is not to take over the forum or replace it it is more or less a place for people to get to know one another and to have a Live chat not posting a message ever 3 houers some people like to have a live chat with other people specialy younger people that is the way of the new world to hear people say hello on a mic and to know what people are about

How abouts advertising MSN / Skype info more prominently - I see where nakoma's coming from - perhaps the moderators/admins/guru's can make turns in answering "live" questions from members.... Perhaps in a "group chat/conference".... Not sure how this can be done though?

Not wishing to be negative (again) what would that achieve? we have a forum to ask questions, we also have "Hennies corner" and "Reefing with Sihaya" as two Guru forums, surely with over 300 active members and two well informed Gurus that post pretty much daily, there would be no need for a "live chat" session? The point of the forum is to have a reference point to go back to at leisure.
The forum is a group chat/conference and works very well for the most part, i think we could be in danger of fragmenting the forum too much if we keep splitting it.
The chatroom only works if members want to use it.

I do like the idea of a get together, just give me time to save up for the air fair. i ill give you lot plenty of time when it's my turn to host

Exactly I think most members read threads only and get a lot of their info that way, even weeks or months later, with a chat all that good info is gone tommorow/or sooner

I am not sure it will really achieve much - BUT knowing human nature - sometimes people would just like to "talk" to someone - the reason I mentioned Skype, is that one can actually set up live telephonic conversations between multiple people. Just adding that "personal touch" to humanity...

BUT then again - it was just a thought....

My suggestion is to possibly get the sponsors a bit more involved, maybe once a month one of the sponsors can write an article on what they are experiencing in the LFS, for example ignorence of customers, aclimitisation techniques preferred, why they stock what they do, what do they prefer to feed, .. dunno, lots of topics that can help us to understand things from their side, it also gives them an opportunity to run a special, maybe have a meet and greet at the LFS for members.

Visitors "browsing" the forum need to subscribe first before browsing are enabled- that'll pick up members list as well as get them more involved

Uploading videos in better pic quality as well as easier than YouTube- then more members will start uploading

Constructive critisism by means of "Button Icon"- easier for members to press a button regarding another member's tank than to write a sentance saying how they feel about the tank/setup (Button- Good, Fair or need improvement- something like that) It'll be almost like your own "poll" of your tank and you can seehow it goes up or down at any day

Comparison area where different eg. Skimmers etc can be compared to one another or lights... eg Tech info on left downwards and different skimmer names on top towards right (Like An excell spreadsheet table) eg flowrate for diff. skimmers/ pumps etc
At least any member can compare straight away what size pump/ lights/controllers/isolators etc will be the right one for his/her setup

Banned/Deleted post area. We would all like to know why certain members/ posts are deleted- Call me curious but at least I'll know what not to say/ do after I read deleted posts/topics

Gallery area where all members setups can be viewed by clicking on a members name- not paging through whole thread to find pics

I dont know if you want to discourage people from viewing the foum

I like Muz's idea. Sean from Northlands is full of useful info. Millehas purple fingers so an article from him on dosing and coral care would be good.
