Idol Marine has been working on something new.

We will very soon be offering evaporative coolers. (Yes, Yes, it is not a completely new idea. But we will be offering coolers in South Africa at great prices.)

So what is this new fangelled thing we're talking about?:p

Well its a system that uses water and air in an optimised way to cool your water through evaporation.

It also won't require huge adaptations to existing systems to install. Just bypass a little water from your uplift, or plumb a small pump into the cooler, that can sit ontop of your sump, or outside the sump enclosure.

The major beauty of these coolers is that besides costing a lot less than Chillers, they will also run on massively less power.

A 1000l tank that might usually use a 1000w chiller could get away with 10watts of cooler power.

That's a massive difference in these days of huge ESKOM bills.:thumbup::thumbup:

Very cool, ETA? And price?

Please do not hold us to this, as we have not finalised our prices and are still sourcing some of the components.:p

A cooler capable of chilling 1000l fully controllable will probably cost R3900. Chiller equivalent is over R6000.

The same cooler but controlled by an external computer system (ie Profilux) is about R2900- R3200.

When one considers that these coolers will use 10 - 20watts of power compared to a 1000w chiller, it makes a lot of sense to use one.

Regarding ETA, we have a prototype running very succcessfully at the shop.

In fact as an example of its efficiency. It (by mistake owing to having no controller) chilled a system down to 22degrees when identical systems running with big fans only maintained 25degrees.:)

We should have a couple out this week with any luck.

Come and see and possibly order your Idol Marine evaporative cooler. ;)

Cheers

The Idol Crew.

Damn i am keen!!!
Take amex? Haha

I saw the unit, hidden away in the sump room.

I am coming over today, place my order, know exactly where I am putting it. My RSM reached 30' C yesterday.

when can we book one?
maybe i must go there friday and take off work

For large systems (2500L?) I'm assuming the unit is ordered/customised to fit each persons set-up?

Correct we have done some customised ones on some of our latest installations. One in Haartbeestpoort area controlled by the Profilux switches on for only very short periods of time (less than a minute) in order to keep the tank cool.

I have not got feedback since yesterday, it probably worked a little harder then.:p

These latest ones are more standard units (small to fit in easily). And cotrollable ones for those who don't run computers.
